Would you and what are the benefits

Today I came across a players roster which included 2 of the same cover which were 1* and fully levelled. This is the first time I have encountered this and just wondered if this method would be beneficial in anyway??

Comments

  • They might have done it to be able to play for longer without healing. I used to see people do that from time to time.
  • I've considered doing it. Especially since I get so many OBW and Storm covers. And here recently, I've been getting lots of Ares covers as well. (Figures since I have him cover maxed now).
  • I think even for an established player going in with a low level team and having 2 of the same cover can be an advantage for PvP and MMR purposes..... I have recently started another account just to find out if new players are indeed reaping the rewards quicker than those that have been playing for a while, this is still in experimental strange. I may duplicate covers just to see if this aids in my gameplay and if so might even consider tranfering that to my main!! icon_e_biggrin.gif

Benefits are obviously playing longer/saving health packs. For some characters there are possibly different pros/cons for each build (i.e. you see people claiming OBW 5/5/3 is best, or 4/5/4, or 3/5/5) and depending on matchups you might want different builds, so you can have each one on your roster.

I can't see myself ever doing this for one simple reason and that is iso. Maybe at the 1* stage it's doable since 30k iso to max (or whatever it is) is not a relatively large amount, but to max out a 2* costs more than 70k iso, which is more than half what it takes to max a 3*. When you really get going in your 2-3* transition you will wish you had that 70k lying around waiting to level up that character you just got the 11th cover for or even just to soft-cap whatever the latest featured character is.

I joke about a roster with 10 Juggernauts. If I had the ISO, it would be serious.

I could see it be viable if they allowed us to play two or more of the same character at once icon_twisted.gif

Which leads to sub thread poll question: would would be the scariest team to face 3 of?

^ I'd probably vote for Hulk. Waaayyyyy too much HP to slog through and much harder to avoid anger cascades.

Hulk is definitely the first to come to mind since his best ability gets better by forcing anger on anything 5% or more of health. The huge health is a big pain to slog through, but sadly Hulk is not all that difficult to contain, so it might take forever, but it wouldn't actually be hard to beat this team. My choice might be 3x Sentry. Tons of HP and 3 times the suicidal tendencies is just frightening. Might be better as 2 Sentry 1 Daken though?
  • As cool as the duplicate cover aspect is, I don't see d3 ever allowing 2 or even 3 of the same cover into PVP events.... As I've yet to sample a fully levelled 3* roster (except) when my 2*'s are being beaten senseless by you guys icon_e_wink.gif then its hard to say who I would choose!! icon_e_biggrin.gif

Search DMZ Mob Disco, player DJ Roy. He only has 5 Juggernauts though.

Yep. Anger cascade becomes unavoidable unless team stun or low consecutive match damage is used. The former is only available on squishies (1* Venom, 1* Widow, 2* Storm, etc.) and the latter makes it even harder to chew through all that enemy HP.

Hmm.. wonder if Smash would proc Anger on the other two team members. Ouch...

3x Sentry won't use any additional moves that a 1x Sentry wouldn't already do--basically there's be no difference between three Sentries and one Sentry with 3x health.

In order to maximize scariness you want a character with a wicked passive. Hulk's a good choice but 3x Lazy Daken is probably better--match green, get six strike tiles worth 342 combined damage. Only problem would be you'd fill up the red tiles pretty quickly. Also, it would not be amusing to watch your 3 characters Heat themselves to death on a board with no blue. icon_evil.gif
  • Fighting against 3 Hoods would take a while, too, unless you're using Daken. You've got a very difficult task firing off any abilities.
  • Not the best but Daken = 6 strike tiles from 1 match. Might not be as good defensively, but offensively it can lead to quick wins if the board is favourable.

Hood sounds incredibly annoying defensively. 3 AP steal per colour per turn.

As for OP, it's kinda pointless imo. Unless you have spare HP/ISO.
  • Most annoying? Triple falcon go!!!!
