Shields and points gained/lost

How do shields work in regards to retaliations? If I'm shielded and I get attacked at times I gain a few points as evidenced by a +#. Other times, +0 appears but there is a number in parenthesis next to the attackers name. What is the number in the parenthesis? And are retaliations the only time you actually score when you are shielded?

  • The number in parentheis is the points you would have lost if you weren't shielded. So basically +0 means no change in score (26) means you would have lost 26 points were it not for the shield.

The times you get +x is for defensive wins. Doesn't need to be a retal, just a win.
