Yay I gained a level

So I'm just wondering if any one is having the same issue since the update, but my PvP has started matching me with guys that have lvl 141 characters? This could due to a couple of things n I'm hoping someone could advise me which it is. Yesterday my PvP match was up against 2 maxed 2*'s and event character usually lvl 23-40 with the odd "oh hell that's a skip" player thrown in for fun. Now my lowest PvP matchup in cage is 2 3*'s around lvl 100 and event character at anywhere between 80-200. I see three reasons this could be:
1. The update
2. I've recently leveled my hulk up to 79
3. Unlucky sharing/bracketing <- I'm hoping for this 1

I should probabily mention my highest guys are cmags at 89, 3 maxed 2*'s, DD, punisher and hulk at 77-79 I don't have any 100lvl characters and I don't have the covers to even get there seems a bit unfair to put me in the same bracket but I doubt I'd be the first to say that.
Thanks.

  • Dude, you have like the same team as me, I just have to level mags a bit. I've been getting a less extreme version of your problem, so it might be the hulk. I did the same thing and it happened to me.

Your MMR is too high. You need to tank.

I've heard of this but what is "tanking"
  • Tanking is intentionally losing games either by retreating, suiciding your team (get them all killed) or getting a win with a really weak team (normally vs a saved seed team requiring you to start an event as soon as it opens) to invite a lot of defensive losses.

It will reduce your PvP MMR and have you facing weaker opponents.

Note that D3 have been trying to make tanking a LOT harder (successfully to a degree) because they have a lot of (completely misplaced) faith in their MMR system so why would you need to tank? icon_rolleyes.gif

Join any PVP event, SHIELD Sim is my favourite. Choose a node. Pick your team. Start the match. Retreat. Repeat two more times on the same node and your team should be in the <100 health range. Start a match on the node a fourth time and play, but lose.

Repeat this over and over again on the same node. 3 retreats and then lose. Go through your whole roster. When they revive but aren't fully healed (less health the better) pick them again and lose some more. You'll notice that the levels of the opponents that you get will start to go down. Once you see all 1* teams on a regular basis you're likely done.

I do the bulk of my tanking on Thursdays because there's not much else going on, but I'll do some light tanking when needed throughout the week. It could take a while to get your MMR down at first, but it's no so bad to manage once you do.
  • I'm not sure if it's intentionally devious or just coincidence that the type of player (the transitional 3 star roster) that needs to finish top 50 the most, is having the hardest time of doing it.

I wonder the same. I am that player. I have LCap and LDaken at 117 and 105 and two 2* (Thor, OBW) at 85. The rest of my roster is in various stages of being leveled/covered. It is a constant struggle to make top 10 and I'm successful about 1/2 of the time. Making top 50 without LCap would likely be very difficult.
  • Bracketing and sharding only affect the people you are competing against for points, but MMR is a separate system that picks who you fight. And she is a tinykitty for sure.

Is it wrong that I was actually happy when I thought tanking was fixed and didn't work anymore? I hated spending the time to lose intentionally so I could win easier later. Good to know it is still alive and well I suppose. Explains some of my current losing streak icon_e_wink.gif
