Why am I being punished for upgrading to a 3 star team
ever since I leveled my daken up I struggle to find beatable teams, so i decided I needed to level a 2nd character, hulk was the only one I had covers for so I leveled him, now I can literally skip 10 times and see nothing but 212/141/141 and even when I do see teams with less than that they are still significantly better than mine, I spend more iso skipping opponents than i win in the matches, and i haven't managed to break 700 points since leveling my characters (have managed top 50 a few times with around 650 points)
now that tanking has been "fixed" is there anything I can do to help this?

Interesting question. I have been thinking for a while if I should keep off levelling my 3* as my 2* roster is keeping levels manageable right now, just. All I seem to read on here is that people level their 3*, then hit a wall in terms of difficulty.
I find it hard enough just dealing with the grind. At least currently I can win a few games.0 -
You can still tank in main PvP. You just have to commit to it and don't do it all in one shot.

Right.
In my experience, it's the most effective way to effect MMR. Whether the effects last long enough to be worth the effort is going to be up to you.0 -
I would rephrase to "Why am I upgrading to a 3 star team." The game is still fun with a 2* roster and cover collecting. It appears it sucks mightily with a fringe 3* roster.
I have upgraded a few to the 4-6 cover soft cap (lvl 30-50) based on recent need (BP & Sentry PvP, Hulk this past PvE), and even then I'm starting to see an increase in 3*s here and there (mostly 115s, not full 141s). Given the horror stories across the forum, I have zero intention of further upgrading unless something changes, or I can one-shot about 6 of them to 141 overnight.0 -
My experience, without tanking:
1. I had only maxed 2* and a level 115 punished, I was always put against OBZ+Thor/Ares teams (a few 141 from times to times, maybe once every 10 skip). Using a full 2* team of OBW with Punisher had no effect on opponeng levels.
2. I got maxed Punisher covers, but I kept him at level 115, and more Hulk / Black Panther covers (not spending an iso on them, but their theorical max is now 102 and 92) => I now got very few 2* teams, but still nearly no 141 teams. I mainly face other 100-115 teams as me. Most of them are Punisher+OBW. One more time, using only 2* did not reduce opponent levels.
3. I spent all my iso to level up Punished to 141. Now, I do eveything with OBW + 141 Punisher + featured (my other 3* being Hulk level 89/102 and Black Panther level 82/92). And opponents are still mainly non-maxed 3*, or sometimes same as me: 141 punisher + OBW. I noticed more 141/141 teams, but only once every 5 skips on average instead of once every 10 skips. Far less than what you experience.
So for me, the system is quite ok: my opponents seems to have the same level as me. And I find it really time to leave the OBW/Thor zone I was in for the last few months!0 -
I too am facing the same problem. Once I hit 128 with one character suddenly I went from facing lvl 85 OBW and Ares to 141 L.Thor and CMags. I can skip to my hearts content but will only face maxed lvl characters. Almost wants me to quit playing the game. Would like it if they would give me a break every once in awhile.0

I tank once a week. Thursdays is tank day. Nothing really stressful going on. PVE is over. LRs end at noon US Eastern, no events ending that night. Perfect. Fire up SHIELD Sim (I'm 5000th in my bracket with 0 points ) and start losing like crazy on the same node over and over again throughout the day. By the time I'm ready to start the PVP ending the next night at midnight, my MMR is low enough to be manageable. If there is something special happening that week that will raise my MMR, like needing to actually make points in SHIELD SIm due to the season ending) I may do some light tanking during, after, and before the PVP SHIELD Sim events.0

do you need to have points when you start to do this? or can you do it at the start of an event while you still have 0? and does actively tanking in Lightning rounds help at all?0
-
It doesn't matter if you have points or not. I do it in Sim this season with 0 points and it works fine.0

can u do it in LR??0 -
I have another person in my alliance that once he got his Hulk to lv100, PvP started dumping two lv141 characters on him. I'm thinking about leaving my 3* characters under lv90 for now and stick to my Thor/OBW PvP combo for now.
Anybody else experience this problem in PvP when upgrading to a 3* character?0 -
I noticed a difference after passively tanking 7 or 8 of the past round of LRs (actually the ones before these last ones). Started seeing some 85/85 teams after seeing anything from 85/141 to 141/141. I run OBW/max Pun myself, so I would say the teams are roughly evenly matched since OBW is basically a super squishy 3* anyway (or 2.5* or whatever you want to call her to make yourself feel good). Point is, even though I've had a near-max LT and now max Punisher for the past 1.5 months, I still see a good number of 85/141 (almost always OBW) teams or something like 115/115 or whatever. These type of teams should not scare you (unless it's like a max covered hood, then stay away). My alliance mates all claim that the tanking method described above works, but it's slow going. One other thing that might help is that if you don't mind joining PvPs early-ish, you can use the loaner hero to tank for free, which just lets you do it a few more times before having to wait for your heroes to come back to life.0

tanking appears to be working, much more reasonable opponents, thanks guys, it's hitting my simulator score a bit but that can be made up.0

Forget everything I said about fair opponent levels. On the last pvp, I used my last won Lazy Thor cover to level him to its max, level 89.
So my "best" possible team on this event was LThor 89 (buffed to about 130), OBW 85 and Punisher 141.
Instead of the usual "nearly maxed 3*", I got a huge mass of 212/141/141....
Each battle was a real struggle, and I was attacked way more often than before (I guess it's because of season 2 end). Instead of climbing easily to 600/700 with very few attacks, I lost nearly 300 points going from 0 to 500. Impossible to reach this 600 points this time, with a team far better than my previous Thor/OBW. Glad I am now taking this game easy, or I would made another "I quit" thread
I guess I will need to tank now... Thanks for the tip! I want fair level opponents back! (or one more maxed 3* )0 -
Since nobody has stated it outright yet: The difficulty of your opponents in PvP is determined by a combination of the levels of your characters and your MMR.
As stated earlier you can reduce your MMR by purposefully losing matches at the start of each event. The easiest way to do this is to retreat three times so that your characters are all but dead, then lose a match. You do not need to use your good characters for this, kill off all of your **** bench heroes.
You can control the level aspect by evenly leveling up your characters in mass. At the very least you should keep your top 3 characters that you play regularly at the same level. When you are a 2 star player, don't ever level a 3 star above 85!0 -
I suspect that the characters you use also has some effect on your MMR.
I find my opponents at the moment currently relatively manageable - yes, I do some tanking at the start of the event, but I also use some 2* characters in the PvP (depending on opponents) just because I like the variety. Even though I have 3 characters at 141 - it seems I face lower levelled opponents than some of my alliance mates with lower levelled rosters than mine.0
