To anyone that cares

Not going to write an essay, but I quit. Played from day 1, built a 20 member F2P alliance, stopped playing near the start of Season 2 and decided that I'm not coming back. People write lengthy posts about why they quit, but there's no point because if you're reading this, chances are you already know. This is a chore not a game, a curious experiment in gaming psychology that either went very wrong or very right. Once I broke the cycle of addiction (and for those of you still playing but in denial, it is an addiction, don't try to justify the way you base your life around this game, it's not healthy and there's no excuse) I realised just how totally unimportant and meaningless the time I spent was - I don't miss it, I wasn't having fun, it wasn't relaxing/chill time, it wasn't escapism, and it sure as hell wasn't as good as pretty much anything else out there. Chances are many of you know this is true for yourself as well, but for some reason you just keep on playing anyway....

This is truly the face of gaming addiction, and not the relatively healthy distraction of early 90s Game Boy Tetris. The next time you stop playing, ask yourself: "Was I entertained?".

I'm done.

  • Bummer. Can you hear Queen thumping in the background?

"... Another one bites the dust! "

All these vets are leaving and it will hurt both the game and the community here. While I don't necessarily agree with all the points made by everyone leaving, I DO agree that things need to change and I'm sad to see the wily day 1-ish vets leave because of it. Sad to see you go.
  • The truth is, if I weren't playing this, I'd be playing some equally trashy, skinner box of a game with flashy graphics. icon_e_wink.gif

Good luck to you bud. See you around the internet some time.

Sad to see you go fluffy. I completely understand your point and I cherish your wisdom. Myself and some of the others in the alliance you began are not that far off of quitting mpq either. It just is not fun anymore. If I do ever go I will leave the F2P Veterans alliance in the best hands I can to try and uphold its core philosophy.
  • Man, they need a quitting threads subforum at this rate. Sorry to see you go fluffy.

At the rate it's going, it may as well be the General Forum....

Don't remember it being this bad with the quitting after the Rags "Funbalance", maybe we who are left got used to the abuse?
  • Sorry to see you go Fluffy, thanks for starting the F2P Veterans alliance. It was great fun seeing the alliance expand from scratch. All the best in your future pursuits.

It seems a lot of veterans are dropping out but I guess that's the nature of mobile gaming. I think it's all about striking a balance between play time and expectations. I play when I can and slowly advance. Sure it'll be nice to have the latest shiny covers but they'll come eventually.

    "Was I entertained?".

A teeny bit ... but a teeny bit less every time.
Happy trails, I'll be doing the chores for just a little bit longer.

To me it seems like a job now. If you're in an alliance, u have to play EVERY DAY to keep scores up to help the team. I love the game, don't get me wrong, it's a great game. But, it can be frustrating at times. Especially since there is no clear and detailed manual or insruction book. I had to learn as I went. And I know I am addicted, but being addicted to a game is much better than other addiction out there these days. If spending too much time on a video game is my worst fault then I think I'm doing much better than a lot of people in this screwed up world. So, to sum it all up, I just don't know how I feel about the game at this point.
