PvP - Elite variation (permadeath)
Buy-in: 200 HP
No buffs, any character available
Standard scoring system
You get to acquire as many points as possible until you lose. Once you lose to an opponent (AI-controlled) you are locked-in at that point total.
This would encourage people to buy buffs (which you could limit, or charge HP for instead). You could also do a 'rebuy' where people can use HP to buy and try again (starting from zero).

Ummmm.... Please re-read your post. You open by saying no buffs, then say that it would encourage people to buy buffs.... So I'm confused.
But as far as an elite tourney, don't hold your breath. I've been playing for months, and the 2 they ran back to back just recently were the first I've seen. And from what I've read here in the forums, they nerfed the hell out of the rewards system for elites.0 -

I thought about a system like that but then the problem is that the person going first has a pretty significant disadvantage. You'd have to rank people based on number of wins instead, and MMR should match you up against guys with similar number of wins.0

I thought that "Permadeath" was in reference to your team members, not your chances at having fun.
I wouldn't mind a "no resurrection" tournament where you can do whatever you want but once your character falls in battle, he is locked from your roster. It promotes a deep and strong roster and will make people play some character combinations that they haven't attempted since first starting the game. Its worthy of consideration.0
