Need help making a decision

I'm at a very pivotal point in my roster after months of casual play (lol, I wish). Currently trying to produce a balanced 3* team that can take me to the next level. I'm approaching 1250 HP pretty soon, in another tourney or two, and I'm looking to purchase a cover for either Hood or GSBW. The reason I'm bring up these two in particular is because they are of the few characters in which I can take up to or past 100.

I'm at 4 Green for GSBW currently and we know that moving from 4 to 5 allows GSBW to fire her gun on the entire team allowing her to clear enemies faster. Coupled with her Purple, she can land some pretty fast shots while denying purple for the opposing team.

As for Hood, I'm sitting at 4 Blue and moving to 5 Blue would allow me to steal both Yellow and Black. The Yellow being the major one as there aren't many black powers needing to be shut down. The Yellow would be a huge boon in stopping 3* Thor and other powerful yellow abilities. This will undoubtedly benefit me in the long run and it feels as if a cover being offered in a tourney many not appear soon.

As you can see, both abilities are fairly different and serve different purposes. GSBW would increase my potential to end matches faster than I could with my IM40 (Which she'd be replacing) that's currently leveled but it would lower the overall health of my team. Hood would allow me to proceed safer into fights without much worry on abilities shutting me down as soon as things get hairy. Of these two, which would do you think would produce the better results?

I may have a third option to consider before having to purchase HPs. The current Magnetic Mayhem tourney offers two Patch covers for 1-10 placement and that seems doable with my roster as long as I don't overextend myself to much. With the two covers from that, it would be possible to purchase a 5th Red pushing him up high enough to be my main damage dealer to cover my other characters. So the question boils down to buying the covers above, save the HP for patch, or just hold on to it for now.

  • Who else are/will you be using? What lvls/covers are your other characters? What are other colour cover lvls for hood & gsbw?
To help make an informed decision, we need to be informed. You may be better waiting until you have other options as HP will get you more covers when used as shields than when used to buy covers.

Neither are completely covered but Hood has been effective for the time being. Hood is 5/4/2 and GSBW is 4/2/4. The reason no other characters were mentioned outside Patch and IM40 is because they just lack the covers. IM40 is the current DPS of the group that I'm looking to replace and Patch could possibly be a 2nd option for DPS soon. All of this is based on them working at a similar level and replacing 2* characters. The main thing is do I increase damage potential with GSBW, increase Hoods Utility, wait for Patch who could be ready to go right after this current Pvp, or just sit on the HPs.
  • I rate hood very highly but he is at his best at 141 and needs strong team to be worthwhile. Patch can be good with certain characters but if you are using GSBW, she will be your green priority and will run better with IM40 to feed her with his yellow ability and high HP. For Patch to be DPS he needs 5 yellow. I would personally say that if you really want to invest your HP into a cover, GSBW green is the one most worth your HP as hood is support only. If your not that desperate and happy to wait a bit longer, I would save it and use it for shields to gain other covers.

That's probably what I'll end up doing. Been testing out various team setups across a multitude of levels in Shield Simulator to get a feel for what characters I want to level. So far I've haven't had any trouble defeating 2* 85s with some of my teams in the 50s and a few 100+ teams have been dropping pretty easily as well. The only limiting factor is the amount of time it takes to kill them until I gain more covers to level them up to a competent damage level outside of Hood, IM40, Spidey, and my set of 85's.

PvP has generally gone (featured, obw/spidey, various third) with top 5-25 placements. I can push for a good while considering that I have about 4 or 5 damagers to use as my 3rd.
  • Out of curiosity, have you received the GSBW Green cover from your daily rewards yet? Just want to throw that out there since it's on the list.

5 Yellow on patch? that's not overkill on healing? I ask because I have never put ISO into him. I have only 2 Green and 2 red atm.

If you want him to tank and soak up damage, he needs the guaranteed healing that 5 yellow offers. Otherwise 5800 health will dwindle very quickly.
  • If IM40 is your DPS, I would recommend that 5th cover for GSBW. She is a very good offensive character once you get her full sniper rifle effect.

At level 120, her sniper does roughly 4000/3000/3000 in damage to the opponents. After that, you're just mopping them up and avoiding damage.

If you have the right amount of Yellow covers for IM40 (3), you might want to think about bringing him along as an alternative 'green battery' to get GSBW going. That way if the board is tough for purple, you can match yellow instead.

You could also make Ares your third as he will give you some more damage options (at lower AP costs) to help you mop up the enemy once Widow gets off a rifle. Also, it's improtant to bring along someone that does good green tile damage, since you will be matching them a lot.

Would be helpful to see your top end of the roster's level and # of covers. Personally I wouldn't blow all your hp on one cover--use it for shields. Used well it can net you at least one, maybe 2 (or 3 if your alliance places high) covers for 300 or less hp. Better ROI in the long term IMO. It may take you a bit longer to get to a full 3* team but in the end it gets you a more diverse roster and added flexibility.
  • Finn is right, the shield game is a better investment imo. However, if you want to spend your hp, I think patch is an excellent choice. He was my first maxed lvl character and is probably still one of if not the best characters around. Patch's strength is dependant on your team composition though, so if he is not going to tank at least 3 colours, then BTI isn't all together worth it. Also if you don't have low cost abilities, berzerker will potentially kill you. So he is an interesting choice, but maybe not the best for you.

The hood is an amazing character who you are very likely to use in your end game. As has been mentioned before, he works best with strong team members because his own damage potential is nearly non existent. His yellow is good at lvl 5, but rarely used because of cost. His black only has use with sr cap or sentry, which doesn't sound like your usable chars. So he is certainly a good investment, but you could also wait till later to use him (until you have big damage dealers like thor, bp).

I would personally advocate against GSBW. She was a great character in the days of ragnarok. She is still ok, but a very low tier end game character. So while she will certainly help you now, she is not a good long term investment. Her skills are far to expensive to be relevant in the meta. She is completely useless on defense. Her hp is very lackluster and her tile match strengths leave her tanking a bunch of colours, so she's often dead before she can sniper rifle.

So I guess this should give you some more to consider. I think my final reccomendation is to hoard your hp, use it on shields and be patient waiting on tourney covers.

I used to really love playing with GSBW and M.Storm combo. That was when I had 4 greens. Then I got my 5th and yes that is a great skill but a high AP cost. I rarely use her anymore because she still has low health (at level 99) and is completely useless against OBW. The AI randomly places the green (from purple) tiles so its not good on defense. If I were you I would save the HP for someone who could tank for her. The best way to use GSBW is from behind Hulk (IMO).
