Seriously, why is MPQ doing this to me?!

For the last half hour I have literally, and I mean LITERALLY seeing the exact same 7 people with maxed out rosters(7+ 141's) when I skip an opponent in the Starfall event. Is anyone else having this ridiculous problem as well? It would be one thing if I would choose to do a battle and maybe get a different set of opponents but alas it is always the exact same group. There really needs to be something done about this issue as this is affecting my ability to have any fun with the pvp events as one should not have to "tank" to get opponents that I don't have to use a set of healing packs on. Just wanting to know if anyone else is experiencing the same grandiose annoyance with the match making system.

  • It doesn't always happen to me, but I hate it every time it does. If I skipped an opponent literally 10 seconds ago, why would I suddenly want to fight them now?
  • Yeah, it's so frustrating sometimes, well everytime. I could honestly care less about their roster but I shouldn't see the exact same 5-6 people every refresh no matter what other action I take in between.

MMR Hell has been a longstanding problem. Ice has said that they're trying to mitigate it, but it's definitely still a problem. Personally, once I get past 900 points in most PVPs, I see the same 6-8 people 90% of the time. It sometimes takes over a dozen skips to see someone new.
  • It seems to me they want a relatively small group of people (say under 10) to be considered like an equivalent of a 'league' but all that does is make you remember some jerk hit you 5 times for 206 points. Yes if they expanded the matchup it'd be 5 different jerks that hit you for a total of 206 instead but I'd still prefer that. There's certainly enough players in this game to make it say if someone hit you once you don't show up on their matchup list for another X fights (unless you retaliate, of course, then you're fair game). Wouldn't really change anything overall but would at least give people a chance to avoid being smacked repeatedly.

At least with 5 people, you'd be able to skip the 212/141/141 sets you don't like, as opposed to the 1 person. And also, it seems to have trouble keeping multiple stacks from one person in the queue anyway

Hopefully a fairer way to determine MMR is implemented sooner than later..
  • MPQ does that to me too, i blame the tiny kitties

Was this towards the end of the event? The vast majority of people with higher points at the end of events are shielded. Those who shield hop are only available for a couple of minutes. There's only so many people who are unshielded and making a longer push. Hence, you only get a handful of people around your MMR that are available.

The only solution is for the them to open up the MMR brackets and make a wider range of opponents available. But this solution creates massive residual problems. People are already complaining about getting hit by opponents several hundred points lower than they are, and any widening of the pool would make it exponentially worse.

The only real option if you want to place higher is to beat highly ranked teams.
  • My suggestion would be for scrapping MMR altogether, in certain situations.

Eg if you have skipped 15 opponents in a row, the game would then offer you opponents of all levels, but within a certain relative point range eg +/- 150 points from your own range. After taking one of these matches though, you would go back to the normal way of getting opponents unless you skipped a lot again. The pool of opponents may have changed in the time it took you to select and fight your battle.

Of course, people have had lots of suggestions over many months for fixing MMR. The rate of positive changes has been so slow that to be honest I don't think they want to fix it. It won't increase the ARPADU. From their point of view, its much more important to keep 1* and early 2* rosters isolated in their bubbles to maintain the illusion of success and encourage investment.

Even though it's maddening to be hit for 40+ points, they have significantly improved it. Back in the day, a 20 pointer was considered amazing
