Not where we should be as a community

Hi all,
I've had to remove some posts and whole threads today and close others because it has apparently been decided today was a good day for an argument....
I've no problem with people debating issues, criticizing anything at all to do with the game, or even making good-natured jibes at each other.
But today, it has crossed the line way too many times. We've had baiting, name-calling, ridicule, and general snarky unpleasantness. I'm pretty easy- going most of the time, but today has been just too much and too far.
Disagree as much as you like with anyone, but do so respectfully and in line with the forum rules. Just take some time before you post and ask yourself "am I trying to make a point or score a point here?". If the answer is the latter, then please don't press the post button and save us both a job.
We're better than this.

I think it‘s a lot of frustration atm, hope that dies down when things get better with some more patches and datapushs…
Made some snarky comments myself with the lack of communication and the engine swap, can‘t wash my hands in innocence about that
The last 3 weeks were straining and without wanting to critizise the devs any more than what has been said already, but sorry, how this was processed was poor, you guys can do better, you have shown that in other places6 -
People are frustrated and the devs aren't around to defend their decisions.
To some extent it's always been this way here. Everything is basically normal and civil and quiet, then the devs fling some bomb into the game (true healing, various nerfs, the cupcake fix, etc etc) and disappear. Without the devs around to defend themselves, anyone who seems to be defending them gets the ire directed at them instead.
I don't think anyone here is happy with what's going on, but it'll blow over eventually because it always does (you should've seen the disaster during true healing, or the xforce/4thor nerfs!).

People like you and Sokun are in a very unenviable position. The game is a literal dumpster fire right now and the communication from the devs is either non-existent or delivered in a way that's certain to cause uproar and divisiveness. And there's only a couple of you guys who are tasked as the messengers and/or peacekeepers.
This community have never been known for it's civility (especially the forum), but certainly we can be doing a little better.
I'll add the devs also need to do better so you guys are not stuck in these positions, and the community is not frustrated to the point that conversations degrade into arguments. A little better communication during trying times goes a long way.

Thanks Scofie. I know Unity has left things a bit of a mess and we're trying as best we can to address things.
We'll have an upcoming blog regarding the state of Unity soon so until then, I just want to echo Scofie in just asking everyone to be respectful. We don't want to ever be heavy handed with allowing you all to voice you opinions, but sometimes things can just spiral out of control and it's best to step away until things have cooled down.

Sorry for calling you entitledbucket. (I still think it's funny though 🤣). Your side of most arguments is typically not entitled at all, often calling out those who do nothing but ask for freebies.
You did ask for 4999 free tokens so it wasn't a completely unwarranted jab!

Sorry for calling you entitledbucket. (I still think it's funny though 🤣). You are usually on the opposite side of the camp calling out those who do nothing but ask for freebies.

I've been called far, far worse!

Fair points. But also: the ire tends to go both directions, compounding the problem and contributing to the negative atmosphere

Thank you for addressing this.
I took part in the the discussion along with many others and, while I did actively try to check myself to make sure I was being objective and respectful, at least one comment I left was more aggressive than I intended.
I felt I was joking at the time I wrote it, but looking back it could be taken very differently.
Your post here is honest and straight forward and I hope we can all use it to reflect on our selves and how we want to be seen within the community.

We can all do better, obviously myself included.
One thing and I am not looking to pick an argument here but I disagree with the sentiment that the Forum is not generally civil because it is. Flashpoints like these are relatively rare, yes there are disagreements but it is normally worked out. I appreciate that MPQ has always been a split community along the basis of favourite places to communicate but the Forum always gets bashed often by people who don't use it often. That isn't a criticism - people form their views and that can be hard to change, with the Forum being less personal than Discord or Line it is probably the place people hone in on when it is time to vent at the developers. I guess that extra level of distance lets people think they can forget their manners a bit,
However inbetween it is just as cordial or as fun as anywhere else. It probably isn't a surprise that someone with as many posts as I do is a a bit of a Forum cheerleader but I truly believe in what I have said above. A lot of that comes down to the work of the Mods - having served in that capacity myself (elsewhere) I know how difficult it can be to judge things right but I think @Scofie (and @Alfje17) are doing an excellent job and so wanted to use this rambling post to thank them.

Thanks @DAZ0273 - appreciate that. We do our best.
I agree that most of the time this forum is fun, helpful and with lots of great insight and opinions. We all care about the game (or did, at least 😆) and that comes out in times of difficulty in different ways.
As I was writing it, I was reminded of the quote from Martin Luther King: "The ultimate measure of a man [forum] is not where he [it] stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he [it] stands at times of challenge and controversy."
That's not a criticism of anyone individually, I should add, and what has made me happy again is the response to my observations and that people have thought about it, which I very much appreciate.
And, yes, I had to Google the quote to avoid destroying it due to my patchy memory. 😆

+1 to the sentiment that these moments of heightened emotions are very rare here. I’ve been lurking for a long time and I hope I speak for more than a few lurkers that these boards are for the most part fun and informative, and we appreciate the work that goes into to maintain it.

The biggest challenge at the moment is the game is an absolute mess, and there's a few people here gas lighting everyone.
I can acknowledge that the Devs have generally fixed other mess they've created. The state of what it is now, is EVERYTHING is now worse. Graphics are broken, tokens struggle to work as intended. Lag is so big you sometimes enter a match because you've mashed the button. MMR is now failing. Yet people claiming things "aren't so bad" is just fuel to the fire.
I sincerely hope a lot of the problems are fixed soon. While the content might have been limited before, it was nice to play. Now it's not nice to play.
But to your point. It's not ok to act like an ****.

As I have discovered having played on three different devices now the experience players are getting is a vast chasm apart. A complete buggy unplayable mess that throws me out the game on my tablet compared to a smooth fast experience on my wife's phone and our Chromebook. So yes, the playing experience is definitely not the same for all and we should definitely appreciate that what is happening to us is not a shared experience across the player base. My alliance mate likewise has had no issues at all.
I hope players aren't intentionally gaslighting people and just truly not having experienced the major issues just aren't able to grasp how bad it is for some.
If I am included in the accusation as I have defended the Devs over the token exploit then all I can say is read my posts about my experience with Unity and you will find plenty of negatives.I can also say that true to the Devs word, the game has sped up a bit but is still broken badly.

The game loads a lot quicker after closing for me, besides the lags (which a force close - now that this won’t lead to any token farming anymore - effectivly reset for about 30-40 fights), I have no problems (the graphic glitches don‘t count, they are freaky but in no point hindering)
The game gets auto closed a lot more often, as long as this isnt wrongfully counted as exploiting I really don’t care.
I’m on a 2022 IPad0 -

Things aren't so bad for me after the first patch. They may be catastrophically bad for you -- I don't know and can't know, because I am not you. I've been pretty clear about this. Posting our own experiences is all we can do, no one is qualified to speak for all players.
How is that gaslighting?

This is not some kind of "you define your own reality" woo nonsense. We are all playing on different devices. We are literally living in different realities.

This is what usually starts fights. Just let people rant.
