Hey, everyone!

Sorry for the delay. For this reason, we combined the questions from February with those from March.

This edition’s topics were especially technical, and we enjoyed going deeper into our plans to analyse them. It may not seem so when we say ‘we have no such plans’, but we take note and check how the ideas you bring fit or enrich our plans and views.

As always, thanks for your contributions. :) And submit your questions for the next edition through our form.

  1. What's going to happen when Universes Beyond sets become part of Standard in paper MTG in 2025? Will we get the Final Fantasy or Spider-Man 2025 sets in MTGPQ, or will licensing deals prohibit this? Will this mean we get less sets this year in MTGPQ? Will you be releasing old MTG sets from Magic's history to compensate?

Answer: While we’re actively working to bring as much tabletop content to Magic: Puzzle Quest as possible, some Universes Beyond sets—such as Final Fantasy—unfortunately aren’t available to us at this time. That doesn’t mean they’re confirmed or ruled out forever; it simply means we’re always striving to bring the best possible content to the game. But here’s the exciting part: when certain tabletop sets aren’t available, it gives us the opportunity to do something just as special. Stay tuned—some very cool surprises are on the way.

  2. Here is my feedback regarding the pink crystals. A lot of time has passed since I started playing MTG PQ - I've been playing for 2.5 years. I've noticed that the weekly reward (where the quest is given daily) doesn't give out the pink crystal reward. The issue is that the button shows a list of rewards as a booster, gold, rune, and... pink crystal! But players receive nothing but gold, runes, and boosters. That's point one.

Point two - I ask to bring back the reward for daily login, and add pink crystals there too. Otherwise, there's no way to compensate, as they can only be obtained through events. But that's not enough - pink crystals are far too scarce compared to gold.

So how are we supposed to obtain them easily? Due to the scarcity of pink crystals, we're increasingly unable to get the desired cards from the elite booster, which costs 400 pink crystals. The problem is that new players won't be able to gather enough to catch up with veterans and compete on the same level.

Please consider this request. I'm begging you!

Secondly... I strongly urge you to add the ability to choose specific cards in crafting instead of relying on random card drops. This kind of crafting was available in MTG Arena, where I could create specific cards and spent tokens without randomness. I simply chose the cards I wanted and created them, building my own deck.

Why not implement this feature? It would help beginners create the cards they need for specific deck combinations.

I sincerely hope you'll take these suggestions into consideration.

Answer: The team is aware that players would like to have more ways to earn certain scarce currencies and that they also want to have agency on card selection. We appreciate your inputs, and be sure we will take these feedbacks and suggestions into consideration as we improve the game experience.

  3. Is there a card that you as designers are really proud of, yet are surprised that players hardly ever use it?

Answer: Wow, it's hard to pick one card, as we have a team and each person has different preferences when designing. Some cards that come to mind are Ulamog, the Defiler, Worldsoul's Rage and Dracogenesis. But one card that we are unquestionably proud of creating was “Julie, Forum Emissary”. We feel honored to have been able to turn our memory of such a revered member of our community into a permanent piece of the game’s history.

  4. I appreciate how busy the team are, however sometimes submitting a bug report feels like shouting into the void. Could you at least tag bug reports as ‘viewed’ so we know you’re out there, and then later on you can upgrade them to ‘investigating’ where you think there’s merit in doing so.

Answer: That’s a very valid point, and we’re sorry that sometimes we don’t update the status of the ongoing investigations. We’ll work on a schedule to address those, and changes should be visible in the next few weeks for the forum posts, and redouble our efforts to update tickets with status of issues that were reported and confirmed to be a bug by our QA team.

  5. What's the current position on cards being unobtainable in mtgpq? Traditionally outside of the Holiday promo cards and Julie's card everything else has remained accessible to new players even if they may have to work a little harder to catch up but we're starting to have a lot more cards move into the position where it looks like there's no way to collect them. This happens in several ways.

Cards that can only be obtained when a particular event is run and the event is retired.

Cards that can only be purchased for money and they stop being offered for purchase.

Full art cards exclusively available through Fblthp that don't make it back into the shop.

Cards don't really get announced that they won't be coming back but if we're counting in years the amount of time since players have had an opportunity to get particular cards then they're effectively not really obtainable even if they could hypothetically show up again at any point.

The monetization of this game has usually been based on paying to get things faster but that you can mostly still get any particular card you're after if you keep playing long enough. Is that still the plan or should we be expecting for more cards to become unobtainable over time?

  6. Hi, I'd love to be able to buy Coalition Victory but this is one of a growing group of cards that were offered for sale once and never seem to come around again. There's plenty of room in the shop to offer these unique cards, could we please have them on a regular rotation.

    Thanks!

Answer: Great question—and totally fair! Part of what makes Magic: Puzzle Quest exciting is the thrill of chasing down powerful or unique cards, especially when they’re only available at specific moments. That sense of timing and rarity is intentional—but we also understand how frustrating it can be to miss out, especially without a clear path to a second chance.

It’s in our best interest to revisit all of our content—including cards that are currently unavailable. While we know players would like more ways to access these vaulted cards, we don’t have an answer or anything scheduled to share at the moment.

  7. I enjoy playing PvP with my coalition. But only certain players are active with pvp. Is there a way to add to the coalition screen, a little green dot next to players names who are online? This would be consistent with the green dot in the in-game chat that says "members online:".

Answer: Noted! While rework and revamping of Coalitions aren’t our target for the time being, this suggestion is quite a nice quality-of-life improvement for the feature, and we’ll add this to our list of ideas to circle back to when we are ready to attack this feature.

  8. With this year ending with the 10th anniversary of the game, is there any planned promotions or marketing at any of the Magic or gaming conventions that run over the summer/fall? It would be nice to see a presence at MagicCon in Vegas in June, or Atlanta in September.

Answer: Although we love the idea, there are no current plans for our presence at these conventions to present the game. We’ll keep you posted and let you all know as soon as the time comes.

  9. The discounts for Planeswalkers during sales were adjusted to be 20% off for all planeswalkers instead of 35% for two color Planeswalkers and 20% for the rest. VIP discounts for Planeswalkers are currently 8% for two color Planeswalker and 12% for the rest. Is the VIP Planeswalker discount likely to be standardized as well at some point and if so to what percentage? Without the higher sale discount on two color Planeswalkers it doesn’t really feel like there is any reason for the lower VIP discount for them now. Wanted to see if we can get a little heads up on if this might change so we can plan accordingly.

Answer: There are two key points to touch on. First, sale prices are handled differently from regular pricing, which can lead to variations in the discounts offered. Second, and equally important, the topic of VIP benefits—including discounts—is part of ongoing conversations within our development team. Our goal is to build on the existing VIP experience by exploring thoughtful additions and improvements that continue to make VIP status feel rewarding, while keeping the overall game economy balanced. This is something we're approaching carefully, so while there aren’t updates to share just yet, it remains a key area of focus for us.

  10. Is there any appetite for setting up a Planeswalker rental system so that we can try out a walker before buying them? Perhaps we could use some number of mana runes to get a vault PW (autoleveled to 60) to use only in standard quickbattles for the duration of that quickbattle?

Answer: Planeswalkers are on our list of items to review and a similar idea has already appeared in our discussions. ;)

We can't make any promises for now, but it's on our radar.

  11. Can you explain how the library works? What are the rules for when and how cards are added to it?

Answer: That’s a great question! To make a long story short, the library is replenished when needed. That is, when the library is empty or you must fetch a card with specific characteristics and no more copies are available, the game replenishes the library.

As part of building better communication, regarding question 5, how about on table of event sneak peek that you update weekly, add rows that mentioned what card that will be offered in limited time in the shop.
