New engine live?

They always said that we wouldn't really notice the new engine ideally, and now we have a new Deadpool daily background? Unless I'm just not remembering it from before.
Seems like an odd thing for them to update among the many other things.

I could be mis-remembering, but I'm pretty sure we already had this background in game from when Jeff was first introduced into the game along with some new event where you had to fight against a bunch of Jeff's

And answering the original question, no. The new engine isn't out yet.

Wishful thinking perhaps

Yep, that's a leftover from the April Fools Jeff events. Since it's April Fools this week, it's probably on purpose!

But there’s a chance it could be totally accidental 🤪

Must be an april fool's thing coming up.

I thought that they had committed to having the engine released in the first quarter.

I’m guessing we may have to reinstall when the engine changes; or else the installer will do that in the background, but it’s going to necessitate that amount of data coming and going from your phone. You’ll notice when it happens I’m confident

The new engine would require a 2gb+ update. We haven't seen that yet.
No new engine and we enter Q2.0 -

I don't think they actually committed to a date, but could be wrong.

Agreed. I think it is clear that the devs know the new engine is a turning point one way or another. The game could implode and end within months or it is going to rejuvenate and the game thrives for another ten years. I don't think there really is a middle ground at this point.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Bcs have demonstrated time and time again what a crack squad they are.
The new engine is gonna be so damn good it will make us all applaud in admiration.0 -

Nah, they've put way too much into this project to let the game die after a few months.
Again you sort of have to read into what they've said, and have some context from very old statements they've made, but I believe the actual goal of this rebuild is not gameplay or feature related at all.
Currently the game requires a frankly insane amount of day to day manual handholding from their team -- all the events, rewards, and offers are populated by an actual person. Why this hasn't been scripted and automated for 11 years is beyond me, but it apparently has to do with the nonsense pile of jank code that the previous developers built.
So moving off of that model to one that's automated is a big win for them, in that they can either run a smaller team or reinvest that labor into other stuff. It's at worst neutral for us -- I don't particularly care how new events or offers get populated, and hey, maybe we get new features.
There will be a bunch of bug fixing to do though. Doing a ground up rebuild of something this old and weird is not easy at all and stuff is absolutely going to get missed.

How do you guys not get that the engine isn’t actually coming and it is in fact an elaborate April Fools joke, planned months in advance.
Tomorrow you’ll see…
You’ll all see!
Fools…

Maybe that’s why the new engine’s development is taking so long? It’s hardly motivational to be working on something that going to get yourself or large swathes of your team made redundant…

As someone who lives in the development space, I've worked with enough different developers of different styles of coding to know that the person who didn't author the code is always at a disadvantage to maintaining anything UNLESS the code was specifically written with a mindset towards longevity. And when deadlines are looming and business people (who make/break your ability to stay employed) are demanding a release, it's SOOOO easy to just code something to work NOW and hope that you'll have time to make it easier later.
Features / Time / Money (or Staff) is the known triangle of development. You cannot have a project affected by one of these that isn't affecting at least one of the others. Whenever I hear that there's a definite release date, that tells me someone has decided on a limitation for time, so hopefully, they were able to manage their resources and/or feature expectations.
But, since they are targeting a "seamless integration, you won't even notice it", that tells me the feature list is pretty well defined (as the date gets closer, the bonus features they were hoping for get cut and cut).
So Money/Staff seems to be the only movable leg of the triangle. But let's be realistic. Just how many folks can they throw on the project that the business folks would support? How many testers? How many iterations with errors before someone towards the top starts demanding the codebase get to a release so that we can start moving forward?
So, I'm guessing we have a release sometime this month (April 2025). That there will be a bunch of issues and that they are likely the things that did not show up when you test with a small staff. "Go live" is the best test team you've got. So personally, I'm ready for that. I'll watch the forums for announcements of when things are ready to go again and keep checking.
