What is the purpose of ascending roster covers?

Hi, just wanting some clarification around the purpose of ascending covers. The obvious is to increase power, speed etc of that roster card.
However, why would someone for example, make a base 1* Venom into a 5* Venom. Seems a lot of effort. Or would you not bother ascending 1* and/or 2* rosters and just start with 3* and above maybe?

Thanks

to enter into a new reward tree. When you buy the 5* venom. every 16 1* covers will be coverted to 10000 iso,1000 hp, 25cp, 1 lt.

Otherwise it would normally take you years to ascend a 1* to 5* land.

There are other reasons to ascend specific chars like polaris, coulson, 3* may mbaku etc. but the overall reason is to harvest a new rewards progression tree. The other option was simply rebuild another duplicate copy.

In general, the rewards get better. Before ascension, players would basically get venom to max lv 1, then sell him for some iso and start again. With ascension, you can get him up the ranks and get (generic) rewards for climbing up through 2, 3, 4, and 5. Instead of just getting a bit of iso or letting his covers die on the vine.

1s are also a special case in that there aren't that many of them, so you see them boosted much more often. Venom's not that scary (though he has a ton of HP at 5), but a boosted juggernaut, spiderman, or yelena every few weeks can be painful.
