Leaving the game

Hey Guys, I'm not as high profile as the ladder but I've put a ton of time and money into the game and finally came to the decision that I need to get out of it.

The primary reason is that once you have a solid team of 141s, there is nothing to really look forward to. sure there are new covers but unless you want to pay to max them, we are held captive by the event schedule in order to win all the covers we need. My torch is still a pitiful 2.5.2. But aside from that, the only thing coming on the horizon is more difficult play. PvE is a mess. If you don't manage your MMR you will eventually go up against 395 level baddies, if you do manage your MMR, you have to take damage on every single fight which is incredibly unrewarding. I don't want to just idly make matches until the enemy fires off 3 to 4 good shots against me and then kill them off. I want to crush them. and I want to crush 10 more teams after that. The latest changes to PvE are interesting in that we are forced to play casually for the start and middle clears but it still all comes down to that last clear and being able to grind every node 3 or 4 times in the last couple hours.

I'm really not looking forward to the magneto nerf, I know they are going to shoot to far and make him incredibly underpowered. I dont even know why he needs a nerf, people don't overuse him. he doesnt seem to be much of a defensive deterrent. I also know that Demiurge has said on multiple occasions and was reenforced by IceIX during his last Q&A thread that they want us all to face more equal matches and that they are looking for ways to even prevent the meager prologue healing that is available now as well as shutting down the last few PvP tanking exploits that we have left. That vision is not the game that I enjoyed. Maybe if it was a single player experience I would welcome more of a challenge, but facing tougher opponents and taking more damage per match just means more time I have to spend grinding (and I spend a considerable amount of time as it is). It also means that weaker rosters have more of an advantage because they have much faster recover times.

I really don't understand why Demiurge doesn't wake up and realize that they had a great game. They had a game that was satisfying to play and possible to progress. otherwise, how on earth did I get 141s? I didn't start at the beginning. instead of building on what they had that was satisfying, they are determined to push everyone into a different mold despite all the negative feedback they have been getting by said players.

Also, I'm kind of put off by them not addressing some of these major concerns directly. IceIX said that they are too busy to have a town hall type thing. That's total ****. You make time. I created the number 1 game on the app store over five years ago. a game that is still ranked 125 today. I know what busy is considering I was the sole programmer on it and was juggling weekly updates, writing a comic book, creating two other apps in parallel and I made time to address our fans. At the minimum, every single update I wrote about concerns people had, difficulties I had during development, talked about the decisions that were made and the reasons why, and I listened to our fans. I made them feel like they were part of the process. Of course I didn't just change everything our fans wanted us to, but I at least addressed their concerns and made them feel like I heard them and was on their side. The way communication happens now, the impression is that there are big changes that demiurge feels like they need to make that will cause the high levels players a lot of pain, they don't want to address it because they are going to go through with it no matter what and our pain and people leaving is just something they have to push through and hopefully will abate after a while.

Your fans are your biggest priority. It's the job you need to get done BEFORE everything else. Having DemiurgeWill spend 1 hour every two weeks is not going to kill the game. And yes, it either needs to be DemiurgeWill or Albert Reed himself (who hasn't updated his blog since december). Someone that is the decision maker on the project so that they can effectively talk about why decisions were made and about their vision for the high level players. They need to defend their decisions to us and be prepared for somewhat of a debate on the matter. I'm not saying respond to trolling, but there are a lot of loyal players that have put a lot of thought into the game that deserve a serious dialog. Clintman would be my first choice for a community representative.

The last thing on my list is that it's such a shame that this game is either all in or all out. maybe I would come back and lay some matches every now and then, who knows, I put a ton of money into the game and love match-3 but if I'm not an active player then I shouldn't be in an alliance. And that means that I can never collect the most valuable covers for each character. If I happen to miss a human torch event during my hiatus then it will be even longer before I can complete him.

  • bb Dave!!!
  • Another SHIELD member leaving in a short time...

The beginning of Season 3 will be hard for all Alliances as many will leave the game again...

    Sad.
  • The slow trickle of big timers out of the game is pretty sad to see.
  • Sorry to see you and the other members of SHIELD go. Each is a loss to the greater community, and detracts that much more from the overall experience here.

There are so many excellent points in davecazz's post. It is a shame that they often fall upon the deaf ears of D3 and Demiurge.

It is sad seeing the old guard leave the game.

thanks, and it's not only the ladder and myself, Jachdo, datura and beezer also left. a couple others were talking about it as well. I wish they would all leave posts so we have a chance at getting demiurges attention. My only hope is that their vision for the game turns around for the current player's sake.

Because some dreams are more satisfying than reality. It's only when you finally wake up that you realize it was all an illusion and the wasted time cannot be reclaimed.
  • If you guys think that the IceIx or any of the other devs actually give a damn about any of the old timers leaving, you're only fooling yourselves.

The only way to get them to listen, is to STOP FATTENING THEIR WALLETS. The moment the whales decide to stop throwing money at them is the moment they start to think, what have we done wrong?

But that doesn't seem likely to happen. Every thing they've done to squeeze more munnies out of the whales have worked.

You would think they would be able to afford a better server.....

Indeed...from one Dave to another... you will be missed.
  • I said this before and I will say it again, the ONLY way we can get the devs to change is vote this game 1 star on your respective platform...They are designing this game so only new players can be successful then once they have gotten to a certain level, cast them aside for new players.. If we stop the flow of new players coming to this game through thrashing it on ratings, they will have no other choice but to listen...
  • Ack!

I'm. Not ready for you to leave. icon_cry.gif

    I will miss you

I hope the Devs are paying attention to posts like this. Davecazz is a big loss to the community. Many people don't even realize how much information he provided about PVP and PVE strategies, often without taking credit for it. As an app developer, he had a unique perspective on the game and provided a lot of keen insight.

On a personal note, I will miss having Davecazz for those late-night West Coast PVP runs.

I think that at this point it's pretty apparent that the Devs may be paying attention ... but they certainly aren't doing anything about it.

Sorry to see you leave. Man, I thought shield only lost 1 member recently. Obviously haven't been paying much attention. Having this many top players leave is not a good sign for the livelihood of this game. They have been trying to fix things that weren't broken with the recent sharding and rubberbanding changes. Pretty much every recent change has made this game worse. Still have a little bit of hope for this game, but am losing interest a lot quicker than before.
  • Hey Guys, thanks so much for the support, I am really feeling the camaraderie right now. Seeing you guys in my PvP queues and climbing the events were really fun.

today was actually a pretty cool day, I was able to focus on my projects and really get my head into it rather than always thinking about using a health pack now so it can recharge later, if I should tank before tonight or if I needed to get that extra clear in before the refresh. We have an alliance facebook page and I will be still keeping in touch with those guys and seeing how the game progresses. Probably come back to the forum if I learn of some major drama or cool feature Demiurge implemented. I'm a huge fan of the original Puzzle Quest and other match-3 hybrids and I still want to pay attention to how this game evolves in case I decide to develop my own one day.
