It is related to the new creatures that Webcore added to the RotGP decks that have Ward. If you have cards in hand that can't have its mana drained, like BSZ, Electrodominance (all cards with stored mana), the game will soft lock.

Yeah, just got locked 3 times in a row on the first fight of the right node. :( Very disappointing.

@AcidRhapsody Technically the bug causing the locks isn't an additional challenge because it's not event specific and has been active since the update that introduced it. It's a preexisting challenge that many people are only finding out about during the event.

But yeah it would be nice if they could fix it.

The exact text on Nicol Bolas's ability (the boss on Node 3, match 3) is this:

The last 2 cards in your opponent's hand are Exiled, then the last 2 creatures your opponent controls on the battlefield are Exiled, then your opponent takes 40 damage.

The ability uses conditional language. The structure is this: "A, then B, then C." So C, which in this case is the opponent taking 40 damage, is dependent on B occuring as written. But that is not how it was working in practice. Bolas was able to use his ability to deal 40 damage to you whether you had creatures in play or not. I played a creatureless deck, and Bolas used this ability several times to deal 40 damage to me.

Webcore, I'm hoping that for next time, you can either have Bolas's ability function as it is written -- i.e., you take damage only if you have creatures in play for Bolas's ability to exile -- or the ability is reworded to make it clear that the damage will trigger irrespective of whether you have creatures in play. Either of these fixes will make it clear to players how the ability works, which is a good thing.
