Can we get an official MTGPQ Discord server launched?

This idea would greatly help Webcore Games and it's playerbase communicate any and all ideas to help keep a thriving playerbase engaged and would solidify a one-stop server for all of our needs. Players old and new would be able to reach out to one another for help with deckbuilding tips, strategies, resource management, and updates. Also Webcore mods could control the flow of information and traffic and terms, and alleviate the tedious navigation of multiple coalitions and/or alliances, but still allow them to exist for their own shares of information as they can still keep certain criteria private. My own personal experiences of navigating across several Discord servers related to MTGPQ have been mostly positive experiences with incredible genuine people that absolutely love this game and other players that love sharing information that is positive to them and others (mostly but not all). This idea imho has far greater positives than negatives to get launched and up and running with the right unbiased moderators. We just want a completely neutral and friendly environment to welcome all and respectively engage with outside of these forums (please no offense) but we're a little outdated here and a more modern approach would be to launch this idea for all to enjoy.

                                    Respectfully,
                                    Killroy

    Worth a shot!

I imagine that many if not most of us were in small, mostly inactive coalitions before we were recruited, and can perhaps remember being less involved in the game.
The greatest advantage is for the developers, and these mostly solo players; giving the former an umbrella for the latter.

Another aye! In my mind I get a vote (I mean y’all let me make an account here and then put in a button that launched this grey box for me to type in, so …) . My 4cents is that an ‘official’ centralized Discord would be tremendous for devs/company to platform the most involved (and your most valuable) players. Newly-social players get access to better strategy and reasons to spend more $. Wins for you, and more wins for more of us ;)

I'm far more likely to report bugs in a discord server vs this forum. Discord is always available while playing. It takes a few seconds to swap over and post something before resuming play. I dont use this forum on mobile platforms, so I by the time I remember to post something I've forgotten or dont have the necessary information. Frankly it takes more effort than I'm willing to commit.

As long as the politics of coalitions stays out I'm all for an official discord server.

I’d really like to see an official discord server moderated by employees. There are quite a few servers I enjoy reading but many more I do not.

A server owned and operated by webcore would certainly be less problematic than employees joining one of the existing servers. There will always be a place for the private servers—not everyone gets along and that’s OK.

We should probably prepare a long post about it - there are so many aspects from what you folks have mentioned that are totally worth discussing at length.
But just so that this thread don't go unanswered,

yeah, of course that's a great idea! And that's not even new (pretty sure it was the topic of some Q&A, wasn't it?).

100% but one RARELY touched on by PQ proper, and why so many continue to ask.

EXCITED at the possibility of this becoming reality ... SOOOoOoOoooOooOOnnnnn....

Marvel PQ has had an official discord server for a year.

    @Sarah yup!
and we know many other games with cool Discord communities too, but that's on our side. let me ask something: what do you find the coolest and the nastiest at such a community?

Like, besides what we already have on the forum (coalition recruiting, event schedule and info, etc.), what would be awesome to have on a Discord server?
And what is common but totally unnecessary?

The nicest thing about the discord servers is that it is easy to have casual conversations with people about the game. Sometimes I feel like I need to write an essay in order to post about something on the forum.

The nastiest thing about discord? Probably the misogyny. I had to ban someone for posting pornography based on a children’s cartoon? Like, what sort of person even does that? Groomers and people who like to upset women.

Like, besides what we already have on the forum (coalition recruiting, event schedule and info, etc.), what would be awesome to have on a Discord server?

It seems that the one thing that is missing from the forum is regular communication and interaction. The casual nature of discord might make it easier for you to stay in touch.

And what is common but totally unnecessary?

The misogyny; at best it simply erases our presence and contributions by assuming that all players are male players—after all, women don’t play video games and/or magic the gathering—and worst it’s downright hostile towards women. What’s absolutely the worst is when the people in power hand wave away all of the nastiness as “interpersonal drama.” It feels pretty bad to have a man in power explain why he doesn’t consider the sexism problematic and/or actionable enough.

You throw around the word misogyny so much that I really don’t think you even know what it means anymore.

I somehow think you’re the only female that feels that way.

There aren’t many females that play MTG:PQ , just face it. Not once have I felt it’s been that way at all.

We are a very small %, so most the time it’s just guys shooting the **** over something they have in common and enjoy.

I think you just blow this up, make it personal when it’s not, and then just cry “misogynistic” to make it a bigger deal than it is.

Maybe it’s for attention? Maybe it’s to feel important for some reason? I’m a bit confused where all this misogyny comes from because I don’t see it.

Only thing I see are people that don’t get along due to differing viewpoints on the game, more-so than anything.

Of course there are arguments, we come from so many diverse backgrounds. It’s to be expected.

I just think you like making mountains out of molehills by crying “misogyny”

Sounds like maybe you need to self reflect a little bit more because this sounds like a personal thing and not a discord issue here…

P.S - From one female to another, stop crying wolf. This is what creates stereotypes, takes away from when it’s really happening, and I know you’ve heard of “the boy that cried wolf” or is saying “boy” misogynistic also?

    https://youtube.com/shorts/wgLnX0Y8M3M?si=AVL1Wx_QGiL6fuL1

As for Webcore - PLEASE get a discord going! It would be a great way to direct all the players together and open up another avenue of advertising. This game still has one of the most amazing communities ever.

@gozmaster are you suggesting that running a discord server for Marvel PQ is fundamentally different than running run for MTGPQ? I’m not sure what your point is.

@ChewableTrash thank you for sharing your input. I’m glad to hear that your experience has been different than mine! It’s always jarring to hear people outside of clinical setting use “female” as a noun. For me, it feels dehumanizing. Other people are free to feel as they please.

Obviously there is a place for private discords! Some people desperately want to see pornography based on children’s cartoons on their MTGPQ servers. I don’t so I banned it from my server and I don’t visit (poorly moderated) servers where those people are. But that’s just me.

Incidentally, about 35-40% of the players I interact with are women—and before people ask—no I will not provide a list of usernames for creeps to harass. A lot of women have very good reasons for wanting to fly under the radar. There are a lot of husbands & wives who play together!

It is very possible that, because I do treat sexism in gaming seriously, female players are over-represented in my sample size. Perhaps more women would play in general if sexism was taken seriously by other people in the community?

Or perhaps the math scales and about 35-40% of the gender-neutral usernames aren’t actually male like people keep assuming.

@Sarahschmara , No. I'm saying the popularity, the funding, the resources the player base etc is much larger in Marvel PQ than in Magic PQ.

And as a result, our dev team is working with much less resources to facilitate the "interaction" and management of the social media engagement needed to justify dedicating people around the clock to answer the same questions 100 times a day.

(Note: I'm sure there is some snark in that reply, so don't take it too seriously  )

And about the "Misogyny server"... That's mine for those that are curious who's she's talking about.

 , Come hang out if you want, we do cool fun MTGPQ stuff too.

At least until MTGPQ does their own Server. All are welcome.

It wasn’t just yours and it’s certainly not the only reason I leave servers. But your view that’s it’s OK if people make sexist jokes because this game (and video games in general) is inherently a boys club is just a weird way of saying “women don’t like hanging out with me and my friends.”

It wasn't "Just Mine" But mine is included... So yes? Noted.

Yeah, Sarah, with all do respect, I hear your concerns, and although I completely disagree with you on what your suggesting is tolerated in my server (as we've discussed at GREAT length in our private DMs.) ...

I'll let the post above from one of our female server members (and BOSS leader)speak for itself on your take. I , of course, can't speak on behalf of the female player base.

And for anyone reading this and not clear, if I or my moderators see ANY comments of that nature, we kill them QUICK and warn against that type of behavior, it isn't tolerated nor condoned.

But to be frank, we just don't have those types of issues often. and have only had to remove a couple of players because of what Sarah describes. I'd LOVE to say "It NEVER happens" but that's just not possible.

All we can do is react quickly, which we do. (Proud of our crew)

And as to your final comment, I... Actually I'm not sure what you're implying in the final comment there...

lol, i have no clue what you're meaning here... I get along very well with all player bases...

    Anywho...

@gozmaster I’m glad to hear that you have increased the moderation on your server—I know that one of the problems previously is simply that it’s impossible to be everywhere at once. I truly believe that it’s better to have too many mods than not enough and that philosophy is reflected both in FTA’s discord and the subreddit.

The bigger problem, is that it’s easy to say “we don’t allow sexism” when one doesn’t really see sexism in anything but the most egregious cases. Hand waving away the smaller, everyday stuff isn’t helpful.

A great example of this is when you called me “crazy” and “mentally unstable” on your livestream because I questioned the timing of an announcement of changes to coalition events (I thought it should have been announced in this order; in game, on the official forum, and then in the content creators’ discords/slacks/Facebook groups/what have you). Calling women “crazy” for speaking out is a very old tactic and it was pretty telling that you couldn’t think of a better rebuttal.

Yeah, @Sarahschmara , to be clear... I have the same level of moderation as was there during your "challenged" convo, nealy nil issues once a couple of people have left or were culled.

    Now to your accusations... Sigh...

    1. Calling you Crazy: To anyone that cares to listen to the livestream. on my channel), from a few months ago (about 9 minutes long). I was CLEARLY talking about the challenges content creators face putting themselves out there. and how from time-to-time, no matter how much your content is loved (Like Nerd Thuggary's) you'll get some hate, I'm not sure how you felt that was directed at you, I would have never called you Bipolar, but I invite people to listen for themselves and here it directly, I spoke to that at the 39:36 mark.

And if you read the comments under the video, you'll see a couple of other folks take on the situation.

Bottom line Sarah, I never called you those things,, SMH, i was talking about MY experiences as a content creator in my other fields for the last 20 years. But for whatever reason, you thought I was talking about you... and that just didn't happen. So... Yeah.

**2. The "announcement order" **:, As I've told you directly, and in that SAME live stream, I agreed and understand this thought process. It was the "Cheating innuendos" I was against. And although, (as it was later proven), the announcement was in game prior to my sharing, so there was no "Unfair info gotten whatsoever.

Now all that aside, WC has since taken even stronger measures to ensure ample time before we the CCs get announcements, only after being first shared in the forums.

    1. Finally, as I've said before and** I'll continue to respond directly to ANY unfounded accusations** you toss at me, my server or my fellow nerds... Especially on public facing platforms, like you do here on the forums, and even on MY youtube live stream comments... 52:58, accusing my server of "creating an unsafe environment for women".

That is just COMPLETELY false, and I won't sit idly by as you make these slanderous implications. I'm not angry and I'm not "beefing", or out to get you, I don't even think of you until you make these thinly veiled remarks. And as plain as I can say to you, i just won't let that type of unfounded rhetoric go unanswered.

**Again, I'll close as I always do Sarah... ** I TRULY respect your work in the community The wiki is AMAZING stuff and I use it as a reference often, personally and for my team and server, your Reddit channel too... Ah MAY ZING! . There is NO DOUBT you're a great part of the PQ community.

But for whatever reason, I'm not one of your favorite people, and although I'm not 100% clear why, I'm cool with that. I'm not for everyone. And under no circumstance try to "represent the player base as a whole" .

I'm just a dude, playing a game and having fun and making silly videos.

**But know, I never question your contributions to the community/your team, as a leader or as a woman. **

You are, no doubt, a VALUABLE community leader, and I have nothing but respect for you and your work. And although you and I will disagree on matters from time to time, I always look to put respect on your name when that does occur publicly. (IE Grist needs a nerf. - No it doesn't)

I would NEVER make unfounded accusations at you or your leadership in these spaces. We have a small enough player base as it is, and we don't need more drama or reasons to push those precious few away.

All I ask and appreciate, if you have any future issues, please come to me direct through DM with any concerns to work on them (As I did for you and your server when a player's account was hacked recently)...

And if we can't find common ground on an issue... Please be respectful of my work and community and it's members.

As you know, it's hard to build and maintain the servers we do, and I'll do the same for you and yours.

I feel that's what is best for all involved.

    All the best Sarah.

(with the risk of disclosing too much...)

On Marvel's Discord and why one does not simple walk into creating a server,
I'd say moderation is definitely a concern. We do have a small team and we would not be happy with creating a server that we could not maintain active and a safe place.
As you folks have discussed above (it almost became a fight but I'm really, really glad you could keep things civil in the end, I guess?), these are concerns from the players' too and we totally agree! We'd like to be able to keep up with what goes on in a server of ours, right?

So yup, we love the idea. And we'd love to have a place more accessible for players to contribute and chat and discuss everything. But we would not do it recklessly so it should take the time that is needed to plan everything and try to do it as right as we can (and, ofc, fix and change stuff as it grows because servers are a community place and should organically adapt to what the community needs. so we should be able to attend to that!) .
