Comic to movie transition
So randomly surfing the web, I am reading on how Loki has become such a favorite character from the Marvel films, and it got me thinking. How is it that Marvel movies seem to have such an easier time of transitioning to the big screen, than any DC characters have?

That's true right now, but up until the current crop of superhero movies it was the other way around -- Superman and Batman had movies in the 70s and 80s; the earliest Marvel movie I can think of would be The Punisher, which pretty well sucked.
There were Superman serials dating back to the 40s, both have had live action, prime time TV shows (Hulk, Wonder Woman, Batman), cartoons (Spiderman (along with Firestar and Iceman), Superfriends, Plasticman, Teen Titans, Avengers, etc. I think there was a really, really bad Captain America live action at some point as well.
And while I like Marvel characters more, I'm hoping DC gets things in gear and comes out with some big movies in the near future...0 -
That would be nice. With Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy, I think he did a fairly decent job of it, though I didn't care much for the third installment.
I don't mean to sound biased saying this, because by far I have favorite characters from both universes, but it seems that the Marvel Universe has more relatable characters in it.
I feel it's very hard to transition medias like that because from the inked world, where pretty much anything can (and usually does) go on, to a live action screen, which tends to bring with it, from the viewers... beliefs, things that tend to get messy as well.
I think as an example to illustrate what I'm saying in regards to a viewers belief, comparing a fantasy world to the real world. We don't delve into a fantasy realm expecting say, the laws of physics to be upheld, whereas seeing something in "real time", rigid statutes tend to be adhered to. However, SFX seems to closing the gap there.0 -

From what I've heard, it's mainly because Disney has been smart enough to stay the hell out of the way. At least for the big movies. From what I've heard, this is also why the Spider-Man movies have all sucked in recent years...Sony Pictures just couldn't stay out, which is why we got pie-eating James Franco.
From what I understand, Avengers came out more or less exactly how Whedon wanted it. If there had been a bunch of big studio executives constantly giving him "notes," the movie would have turned out much **** than it did.0 -
Like all successful movies, it comes down to basic must haves: Great directing and great casting.
Loki is great, because the actor playing him is great. Tom Hiddleston isn't the most physically imposing or good-looking man, but when he's on-screen there is something undeniably charismatic about him. That 'it factor'.
Great casting can go a long way into taking mediocre/bad material and elevating it into something decent. Take for example, the old Superman movies. Christopher Reeve so embodied that role that he was able to make those movies pretty watchable (even though they had many glaring flaws). You could also say the same about Hugh Jackman and some of the X-men movies he's appeared in.
The biggest shame for me, is that Sony kind of blew it with the Fantastic Four movies. They have (arguably) two of the best Marvel villains (Dr. Doom and Galactus) and wasted them in pretty **** movies. Galactus is kind of hard to pull off, but Dr. Doom should have been a slam dunk.0 -
Yes even I feel that lot of things get added and removed when movies based on comics are released. I was looking at list of those movies at http://www.ranker.com/list/best-movies- ... vies-lists and found that people really like these movies a lot.0

I think from a Marvel movie perspective it helps that it's Marvel making their own movies rather than other studio's. So their vision is clearer and being that it is their own product they've been able to do more with it.
That's what I think anyway.
I wish the x-men IP would go back to Marvel!0 -

Marvel on the other hand is taking a completely different approach. They pay less, but their talent is treated better by editorial and they have more freedom to explore their own creativity so long as they stay within continuity and the overall story if it falls in to a big event. On the radio show we do we always talk about how we fell like Marvel has taken a very Image Comics approach (creator owned) with their properties. Sure Marvel still owns FF, X, A, Etc, but the creative makes it heir own and it shows.
The result? Amazingly great books like Hawkeye, Thor: God of Thunder, Captain America, and just about every other title on the stands right now.0 -

It's not so much charisma. It's the demure appearance plastered over inner turmoil. Channeled rage occasionally escaping the chains that bind it. Hiddleston does that very well.0
