Marvel characters coming to paper MTG!

So... er... this probably isn't how licenses work at all, I don't know, but if 505 Games owns both the Marvel Puzzle Quest and Magic Puzzle Quest licenses.... any chance we can get these MTG cards?! O‿O

Considering there's no Lord of the Rings, no Assassin's Creed, no Stranger Things... I'm guessing no. Not unless Disney gets a cut of the revenue from both games, and I'm not sure that Hasboro would want to give up a cut of profits from this game in perpetuity just to get the Marvel universes beyond cards into the game.

Additionally it's more likely that next year's Universes Beyond big set is going to be the Final Fantasy release, both because of the timing and size of that IP while Marvel will likely be more akin to the Dr Who crossover with just some premade decks. (March of the Machines Aftermath already proved the small boosters they had planned to do for Assassin's Creed and other future sets were widely hated, and they've scrapped them going forward) Ultimately this makes the Marvel set probably on the smaller side and not something they could realistically do a full crossover into this game

Yeah, you're probably right, but I thought I'd ask ^_^

I did think about asking if we could get the Doctor Who cards... the BBC have allowed Big Finish to produce unofficial, unlicenced audio dramas of the Doctor Who IP for decades now, because they realise how healthy it is for the brand... but then I remembered that Disney has a controlling interest in Doctor Who as well now, and it seems unlikely they'd go for it.

Let us not forget that there is no Transformers crossover in MTGPQ either.

Does 505 Games own the licence to Transformers in any form?

God I hope not. Remember when this used to be a fantasy game? We've just had sets that look like Beetlejuice, Sylvanian Families and Bonanza. What next? Hasbro owns My Little Pony, Trolls and Furby. Maybe WotC could, I don't know, come up with some new and original storylines and characters in the Magic multiverse? I don't want to see Captain Kirk fight Darth Vader, Thor fight Superman, or Nissa take on Megatron for that matter.

ps I'd LOVE to see Kirk take on Vader! Just not in Magic.

Should I not tell you, then, that they announced there's going to be Sponge Bob MtG cards?

There actually are MLP cards already, though they’re silver border…

On a related note: Big changes in paper MTG coming next year! Universes Beyond sets will be Standard legal going forward, and there will be more of them:

Doesn't seem like a huge change for MTGPQ if Universes Beyond continues not to be included here: 3 MTG IP sets in a year rather than 4.

That would be a great question to the Q&A, so we could get a formal/official answer (it's not me answering those questions, but the proper team/managers ^^.
But based on what we have worked with previously, I personally do not think we'll have any crossovers...
