Mechanized Warfare doesn't count Planeswalker damage, but Protection does?

Using Mechanized Warfare with Chandra, Roaring Flame, her abilities do not trigger the damage bonus. (MW: When another Red or Artifact source you control damages a creature during your turn, this deals 2 damage to it, up to 4 times, per turn.) (C,RF: Deals 4 damage to all opposing creatures).

However, when something has Protection from my colors, that does reduce the damage of my Planeswalker abilities, which tells me that my abilities are Red, which should qualify them for Mechanized Warfare.
