Put new card sets into Seize the Day?

Playing Seize the Day recently made me muse on the fact that the card pool has not changed at all in quite some time. Since Judgment was released in September 2020, in fact!

I thought it might be a nice idea to introduce some additional card sets into the format and see if it shakes it up a bit? The obvious sets to include would seem to be PMA and PM2, since these sets do not rotate in and out of Standard like most sets.

What do y'all think of this idea?

I think that is an excellent idea, but to be frank, they should start by changing the objectives. The event is so stale with the same objectives for the 4th year running. (Hoping that they haven’t already done that and I inadvertently admitting that I have not played the StD event lately)

While I agree this event seems like it getting a bit stale, I don't think that adding new sets is the answer. Part of this events uniqueness is the very limited card pool. It makes it feel almost like a block constructed event. I guess you could remove Origins and add PMA or something like that, but increasing the card pool isn't the way to go.

An event with a static and very limited number of sets result in playing this event with same deck over and over again.
One solution may be to select a fixed number of sets randomly each time it will run having origins the only set in common.

  • Yeah, Origins should remain for any newer players who are starting out the event. Even if they don't have the full set of it, more likely they can work with Origins than PMA to put together a deck
