Beamtown Beatstick not working, or am I not understanding?

I was trying to use Beamtown Beatstick [Equip 1, gives menace and gold tokens], but it isn't getting 1 mana from my attacking creatures while in hand. Is there something special about the Equip keyword?
Edit - The only other Equip card I have is Quickdraw Dagger, and that gains mana when I attack. I'm guessing BB is bubugged.
