Yet another Welcome to Shield complaint…

I get that they have this event to feature the new 4* character that gets released every time they drop a new one, but they need to seriously rethink how they create the 1v1 node. In this instance, you have a character whose main abilities are to stun and remove enemy special tiles and the character you select for him to fight is one that doesn’t create special tiles and you’re unable to stun in that node so how does that really allow you to see how the character plays? Did they just throw a dart on a dart board and have it land on Deathlok and that’s how they decided who should be the one to have you defeat for the node?

Please, some one explain to me how this makes sense. Also, some one please explain to me how the heck to win the 1v1 node as I’ve been closer to throwing my phone violently into the wall than I have been to actually completing it.

/end rant

Prior to making this I didn’t check the announcement post to see the other complaints about this very issue, but I feel this still needed its own thread to bring more attention to it so the dev team hopefully realizes they put zero thought in how this node is constructed. I doubt it’ll change anything, but you can always hope….right..?

It IS possible, even w/o boosts. You guys just stop whining, grab some TU’s and get it over with.
I used mThor’s Feel the Thunder and managed to finish him off while burst healing.

I hear what you're saying, but I say a big no.

some characters are meant to be backup, or support characters. they really SHOULDN'T be able to do big damage.

then, what do you do? you use a Team-up!

If they were to change ANYTHING, I would give a AP boost for team-ups, so people think to collect.

I thought I had it by the cunning plan of using a Deathlok team-up to defeat Deathlok! Deathlok did not wish to be defeated! Closest I have got so far though!

Well, all kinds of things are possible .... just hear me out here. Maybe ... just maayyyyyyybe ... there could be a variety of win conditions for different types of characters. More variety than just reduce enemy's health to zero. This is supposedly Marvel PUZZLE QUEST, not Marvel MATCH-3 KOMBAT ... even if we do have hue-shifts a "costumes".

It only took how many years for "puzzle" gauntlet to be introduced?

Some characters are strikers, some are tanks, some are varius kinds of supports. Characters have a variety of signature effects. Tailor 1v1 victory conditions to a character's design. Show off what the character can do, incentivize players to use a characters as intended, rather than pile on boosts, slap on a support and a stack of TUs, and force ALL characters to be strikers / tanks, regardless of their design.

The list of possible victory conditions is ... well, not endless, but long. WE already see a range in the daily, weekly, seasonal quests and various puzzle gauntlets. Matching tiles, matching certain color(s) or tiles, collecting AP, collecting ### of color(s) of AP, generating AP, stealing AP, draining AP, dealing damage, tanking damage, reducing damage, (burst) healing damage, stunning opponents, or allies, sending people away, sending people airborne, firing active abilities, triggering passive abilities, creating various kinds of tiles, destrying various kinds of tiles, buffing tiles, flipping tile colors, flipping tile types ... blah, blah, blah.

Every match, particularly 1v1 matches which should be demo'ing / showcasing one or both of the characters involved, being the default "reduce enemy health to 0" is lazy, unforced error, missed opportunity.

Maybe after another decade those behind the game will realize this.

Getting five match fives in a row did it for me.

When the solution is Whales it is always a bit of an epic fail on the Devs part.

The real solution is: this node isn't worth playing!

Developers doing their best to remind players what it was like to play the Gauntlet for people that didn’t have advanced rosters?

*with mirrors locked out, back when we have like 150-200 fewer characters …..

No thanks. I’ll continue whining. Thanks for your contribution.

I mentioned in the other thread that it took me roughly 25-30 tries to do it. I actually won without boosts or TUs (I tried those many times and just wiped). But it took a whole match where Blue/Black were scarce and I prevented him from getting any of it.

You have to focus on hitting your traps to create the attack tiles which can heal you and slowly whittle down Deathlok. I actively prevented his nullifer from reaching the other side because it removes all your attack / trap tiles when the board gets destroyed which is nice for damage but puts you back at square 1 in terms of traps / attack tiles. As I mentioned above, do not let him match Blue or Black or it's game over.

Now that players have a couple of covers of him I imagine it should be much easier to win if you use your character with a support (Taskmaster Sword, Chewie, Leapfrog etc).

They owe you compensation for the wasted time on the 25 tries. There should be one free cover for every player that tries this node.

After reading all the comments, I brought a 550 hex23 green tu and tu ap boosts and killed him in 2 turns.

I managed to get my own copy to 10 covers. Leveled him to 209. Equipped Eros’ Arrow….it was a slow battle but I did it. (Used some AP boosts, basically accidentally, which did nothing to help me win.)

Nobody seems to have mentioned that on top of everything else stacked against you in this matchup Deathlock’s blue passively saps your blue and green AP every turn…
Ah, the Chasm mechanic that everyone had been missing so much!
