Best defense characters

What characters do you think are best on defense? What makes you press Skip the most? Here's my list, starting with the scariest and moving down.

Hood */5/*
Something of a one-trick pony, but what a trick! Passives and low-AP attacks are what you want. Go after him first.

Sentry */5/*
Haven't encountered any maxed Fabios yet, but he should be very strong, like a 3* Ares with more brokenness.

Lazy Thor 3/5/5
The very laziest. Has two colors that need to be denied. No way for the AI to screw him up. You might want to keep enemy characters with worse yellow/green active abilities alive until he's dead.

Lazy Daken 5/*/*
Tons of damage very quickly. Tanks required.

Hulk */*/5
Best taken down in a single turn (Patch does this well) or with judicious stuns. Can be saved for last.

OBW 3/5/5
Low health, but it's easy for her to get 8 purple and screw you. Should be targeted early.

Patch */5/*
Scary red. Ante-upping green, but the AI is not good at eliminating the strike tiles it gives you.

Psylocke 5/3/5, Punisher, Ares
Low-cost attacks that you can't prevent. Annoying but usually not deadly.

Black Panther */*/5
You must deny black. All of his moves remain decent on defense, even if the AI can't save up AP for yellow.

Comments

  • Sentry/Thor are roughly even, but Sentry + Daken is a more potent defensive duo than Thor + anyone.

The Hood is still good but not as scary as he used to be due to Daken and Sentry.

Magneto is good on defense if he's the only person with a red power with 5r, but this means you don't have Thor or Sentry.

I'm still skeptical about defensive teams, but once I get the covers, I'm angling for a laken/sentry duo, since they're actually fairly decent at attacking too

I'm really worried about how to deal with this team once Magneto is nerfed. Right now they're only manageable because you can get rid of all the blue tiles immediately so you can kill Daken first after you got enough for Magnetic Field. Assuming that Magnetic Field becomes anything remotely sane, you'd have to attack Sentry first and I just don't see how you can reliably kill him on time before there are enough strike tiles from Phermone Rage for Sentry to do a crippling World Rupture even if they have nothing else. And unlike most defense team, this tactic work just fine on offense too.

The only way I could think of is to get yours off first. Or have something that spams the board and blocks most of them, like storm, or falcon. But even then, that'd probably be slower than not-even-3 green matches
  • What do you think of Human Torch on defense? First, I don't see many of them. I remember fighting him on a team and maybe it was PVE. So, his black is just ridiculously insane and beat the **** out of me. He's squishy though so my tactic with him is to go after him before anyone else, even OBW. The AI usually **** with the green ability. Red at 8 AP is also another annoyance from him.
  • Sentry/Daken/Hulk? alot of green...but you can generate a ton of green as well. you have a TON of HP. talking almost 20k in HP to take down.
  • well, although it does not really most of the people here, i would say modern storm is really good in def too. Had seen the effect when paired up with OBW. IMO, AI controlling (lazy) cap and human torch is pretty weak too. Ast wolvie and ragnarok seems to be good. Sentry should be scary as well.

Good on offense, bad on defense:

    CMags 5/5/3
Blue becomes next to worthless on defense -- I have even seen the AI place a blue protect tile on top of another blue protect tile. Never uses red more than once per turn. On the plus side, purple still does a ton of damage -- if he has 4 or 5 covers.

    Human Torch
AI can't use green effectively, putting multiple countdown tiles on the board and never saving up AP for more damage. Black is usually a poor use of AP. Red remains idiot-proof.

    GSBW
Green is so expensive that it's easy to prevent. AI wastes AP on her red, and can't use purple effectively.

    Modern Storm
She has no health. I target her first unless Hood or OBW are in the party. =:| Storm should be much scarier.

In general, any ability that lets you select tiles will be much worse in the hands of the AI. The developers seem to know this since they haven't added many of these abilities since launch (just Invisible Woman and Lazy Cap).

for me till they nerf CMags, it's gonna be Punisher/Super Thor/Cmags. all the colors of the rainbow and 3 very damaging abilities(CotS. Thunder Strike, Translocation) but i am working on my Panther to replace Punisher cause simply put....Punisher is there only for his black ability, if i can get panther there with his 3.2k damaging black AOE before the nerf, i'm gonna be a happy camper. Another plus is he has 1400 more HP than pun.
