Potential bug with Phylla-Vell

Phylla-Vell's Oblivion Sword ability.
I paired her with Shaw to try some crazy match damage scaling using this ability.

However, every time I cast Oblivion Sword and Shaw starts to eat and grow this ability does gets outpaced imediately by Shaw (almost always the next turn).

Oblivion Sword seems to be static from the time it is cast and not dynamic.

Is this functioning as intended?

Any word on this?
Should the power adjust and scale with partners match damage or is it static and a snapshot?

I’d like to stop messing with this if it won’t work.
