You didn’t call it “MIA Ray?”

It may be too late to vote on the first match of the board game tournament (Chess v. Talisman), and based on Ian's introductior comment in episode 425, I'm probably in the wrong part of the hobby to boot, but here we go anyway:

I don't like Chess. I haven't sought out a game of Chess in probably 20 years. I can name a dozen other abstract strategy games off the top of my head that are just as good as or better than Chess, and I know there are probably a hundred or more. Yes, these games have just as much depth as Chess and are just as capable of generating high-level strategy tournaments and analysis. They just don't have a 1500-year headstart.

But I have no use at all for Talisman. So my vote goes to Chess.

As for the second match (Checkers v. Carcassonne): I sold my copy of Carcassonne just a couple years after buying it, such was my level of disinterest in that game. But I think people would like board games more if they didn't just consider them to be ancient abstract games like Chess and Checkers. (Side note: These are obviously very dissimilar games, so it's funny that these are the two standard games that everybody references. I guess that's the advantage of being able to use the same board for both.)

Back to my point: Even though Carcassonne is not really my cup of tea, as one of the few modern classics in the tournament, I give my vote to it.
