In Game Speed

Dear Devs,

I've been monitoring both Legacy and Standard AI (Greg) turn times. It appears that Greg's turns have increased with about 20% in the last 2 years. This is not due to system/hardware specs, but purely the animation time and cards incessantly triggering.
There is a small bias due to prevalence of GTA decks that always ensure long turns on Greg's end, but even if we ignore those the time-creep is significant. This is annoying.

I would like to propose some toggleable options to increase speed and gameplay for players who would like this:

  • make the "players turn" and "opponents turn" prompt not 0,5 secs, but 0,1
  • enable/disable button for the visual effects of triggers, even your own. Just make them happen
  • enable/disable card poppups/animations for your own cards, like you have for Greg's
  • provide more information in the log, like a match summary (total mana gained and total cards drawn, total life gained, total damage done)

Related but not directly involved in turn time. Decrease screentaps in

  • opening packs , toggle option to skip animations and move directly to pack contents summary.
  • end of match screens (defeated, xp), toggle option to skip them and proceed directly to the next matchup screen

Thanks for considering these points.

They probably won't get rid of the opening pack animation; too many people get addicted to stuff like that. Like how people playing slot machines get a high from almost winning. So don't expect that to ever change.

I'm with you on getting rid of pop-ups and animations. I've been asking for a while now for them to get rid of the token generation animations. I don't need to sit through star, token pop, star, token pop, star, token pop, star... when Rabble Rouse is copying 50 tokens! Plus the trailing light animations going from supports to creatures is equally obnoxious (I had a bunch of those triggering in some of the BftA matches).

This game has needed a complete UI overhaul for awhile now. Everything has gotten slower over the years as more and more content gets added. The UI is an active deterrence for certain cards because of the animations. I avoid almost everything that involves tokens because it takes so long. In low stakes games I often quit when one of those cards are played. Anything that gives +1/+1 when a certain thing happens is also a time consuming endeavor.

They could consider getting rid of the pack animations for a pack if you already have all of the cards in it. You already know all you're getting is some mana orbs. There's not really any suspense in that scenario.

I think you can get an idea of how likely this is to happen from the latest 'Quality of Life' improvement, where they spent time and effort coding a feature nobody asked for to make the order of cards you opened in boosters more random.

Crazy how fast they managed to devalue the term 'Quality of Life' so it means nothing.

The core of my question was: Devs, can you make it optional.

If players want to see individual cards jiggle, fine. If people want to see the cards they draw in game pop-up, fine. If they want to see stars and swooshes, fine. Just give other players the option to disable them with a toggle button.
