If the opponent has no spider-verse characters will this target your own spider-verse characters?

I was going to say this seems ridonkulously good for the many Spider-Verse characters who spam webs but don't have any competitive pay-off themselves, but if "a random target" includes your own characters that would indeed be a difference-maker/deal-breaker...

Yeah, everything depends on that 1st power and whether random target includes friendly characters.

Slight change of pace these last two support drops. Implanted bomb will kill whoever it's equipped to after three turns of no matches or powers fired and this new one seems to deal some friendly fire, possibly. A gift and a curse these last two

I'm curious how the Rank 5 lock ability will interact with Omega Red's CD tile. Specifically whether the locked tile will do any damage and if he will generate a new unlocked CD if his CD is locked.

"random target" makes me think this might only affect enemies as you wouldn't target your own team but of course MPQ language is not always as we would expect.

Black bolt comes to mind as a character that "targets" his own team. There are probably others.

I guess. Of course "random" (not consciously selected) and "target" (intentionally directed at) have opposing meanings which makes them working together confusing anyway so perhaps a better choice of wording would have been to simply use "random character" if it means anybody is fair game.

But leaving that aside I guess we either wait for a clarification here or until somebody gets one.

If they wanted it to be enemy they I don't see why it wouldn't say 'random enemy' rather than 'random target' (for example BRB's Green says 3 random enemies).

Target generally means a valid character to hit (ie not invisible, not airborne, not away). That's why I am worried it can mean characters on your own team.

It is mangled English once again I'm afraid leading to confusion. Using either enemy or character would have qualified it.

I don’t like the trend of trade off supports. Hopefully this is just poor wording.

Or we as players are trying to over read things into the descriptions like we are lawyers looking for loopholes.

The level 5 power says enemy in the description so it seems to me it's not mangled English at all. Target means a character that can be hit (not invisible/airborne/enemy) by a power/match damage. If they wanted it to be enemy target they could have written enemy target or just enemy.

I think this is another double edged support.

I did a little more searching. 4* beast blue stuns a random target, 5* Peggy thor blue hits a random target, and hex-23 green hits a random target. These are significant because the description is the same, "random target". I think all of these do hit enemies and cannot hit allies but I'm not positive as I have not used the 3 characters much.

I'm fine with downsides on characters or supports or whatever, as long as the character or support is more powerful than others with no downside -- ie they use a downside as a balancing factor to go more powerful than they normally would.

The problem is, of course, that we have a ton of unconditionally super powerful stuff with no downside, so I don't really understand how they make balance decisions at all or specifically how they decide what gets a downside.

Downsides are fine in my book too but this feels like it would devastate the best web makers if it will target them if no other spider-verse characters are in the match. I love using halfthor okoye and Spidey 2099. This would make that very effective unless Spidey is stabbing himself while stabbing the opponent.

Edit: I guess technically the heal outpaces any self damage. Its just going to quickly lower their max health if it does indeed cut themselves.

The hypothetical self damage would be permanent though.

FWIW it seems too mad even for the regularly zany standards of this game to have a support that guarantees the supported character will take a minimum 9% permanent damage over the first three turns if they are the only SpiderVerse character in the battle.

Would be nice if we could get some clarification
BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY
