Event Ranking System
To Whom It May Concern,
As I play these PvP events, I often find myself curious as to why the ranking system is the way it is. I have just a few questions and comments, if you'd take the time to read. Thank you.
If 5 people score perfect and tie for 1st place, why is the next set down considered 6th place and not 2nd place? What is the rationality behind this style of ranking? What did you (I understand you inherited this from Oktagon) hope to achieve by this style of ranking system and does this old system still fit the outlook/agenda that Webcore sees for MTGPQ's future?
As I hang around the community, I see a lot of people vocalizing their opinion on how they would LOVE to have this system revamped to make it more friendly for missing just a single objective. Also, this may entice more activity and gameplay from more people if they weren't absolutely punished for the smallest mistakes in a very very weird ranking system.
I really don't think that would hurt the "economy" (I dont have data, sorry, I may be wrong with this) that much by allowing a more lenient and fair ranking system. If 5 people tie for 1st place, then the next set of scores should be considered 2nd, the next set of scores 3rd... so forth and so on. Also, I'm not sure if it would help, but maybe it could help change the dynamic of people waiting for the "flip" to occur.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this and hopefully we could get a reply on the topic, along with anything you feel is important to know and/or hear from your end of things!
Sincerely,
Chewy

I wonder if they noticed that like upwards of 700 people just... didn't play last weekend...

Hey, folks!
As we have answered recently in our Q&A sessions, a revamp of the ranking and matchmaking systems is a project we are working on. It's really nice to hear exactly what aspects of the current systems bother you so this kind of posts helps a lot. But, yes, this is on our radar and you can expect changes to it coming up in 2024.

Thank you for that! I did read the Q&A part of that and appreciate you addressing our questions. Can't wait to see what you all have in store for us!

The described system would be giving out rewards based on the rank of your rank of your score rather than the rank of your score. While I wouldn't be against it, it seems a little complicated compared to extending the progression rewards so that there's rewards all the way up to whatever the max score is. I'm sure ranked rank rewards would be more popular though because you'd get to see your name on a list and your rank's rank might be a high even if your rank isn't so it'll make people feel good. Should be interesting to see what happens with this.
