I've just seen on discord that our community manager is no longer part of the bcs team.
I know I have joked about me being the og but I don't want anyone thinking I was serious.
From what I gather there have been some layoffs at 505 and its filtered its way to bcs.
Sad day my friends

505 Games’ parent company is laying off 30% of its staff. A hard time for a lot of folks, just before the holidays.

Hopefully they got a decent severance package.

This is very sad news, I hope Yume will be OK not least as she has only just come off maternity leave.

Best wishes to Yume and all other staff affected by this.

She actually reported into my team on the 505 Games side and will be missed. Like we said on Discord, it'll be myself and @MPQBlaine who are going to managing things around community so we'll be around to keep things going.

Very sorry to hear it, hope Yume and all others affected will land on their feet.

The game industry is in a particularly tumultuous state this year, especially so for non-developer roles. I’m really sad for those who were let go. I hope we all get some stability sooner than later.

By the typically-used metrics the US economy is in reasonably good shape (one could argue about the efficacy of these typical measures, but that is a bigger discussion).

That said, the tech sector in general and gaming industry in particular is definitely in a layoff cycle. Not so much because business is bad as because interest rate are up. Turns out turning off the free money spigots does make quarterly reports a little uglier. And when the choice is layoffs or cutting the stock price (or cutting executive pay I suppose) it's not hard to guess what will happen.

My condolences to all the workers affected by these layoffs.
