A fun thing happened on my way to the Big Enchilada

I made a match 5 and Teen Jean popped out and stunned my team. Now, where did she come from? She's not on the enemy team what I could see. Is this something new?

Teen Jean is the 4th person in today's 7-person wave.

Due to the way replacements jump to the front and tank the next hit, combined with the seemingly immortal sprite error on wave nodes, you probably killed the first enemy, killed Teen Jean, and brought up enemy #5 (or 6 or 7 depending on how many hits you landed), so you didn't see the art for Teen Jean come up in the lineup, but you saw the following enemies, PX or Sentry Gunner.

However, Jean's power is an immediate reaction, always has been. So the sequence was probably ...
    Make match-5
    Damage kills enemy
    Jean called up as replacement
Jean passive fires, stunning your team (and Jean animation if animations were on)
Next match in post match-5 cascade kills Teen Jean
    Next replacement pulled up
... resolution continues, meanwhile you see the art for the last surviving enemy, not those that die along the way

Anyway, not new, can happen whenever Teen Jean is #4 or later on a wave and you kick off match-5 multi-kill.

Yea I’ve never understood how characters that weren’t there when you did whatever you did fire powers based on what happened. Like when you wipe 3 with big damage and Storm pops up and magically fires her power that does team damage to you for doing that much damage to them without her actually being there when it happened. Kinda silly but it’s always been apart of the game.

This has been a bug forever. Like, multiple years now.

What's weird, though, is that SO many of the wave nodes in DDQ seem to be explicitly built to take advantage of the bug. Like, I swear 3* Captain Marvel is the replacement at least 80% of the time.

    Marvel 40%, Storm 40%.
They simply refuse to avoid using those two for whatever reason.

I can only imagine the forum posts if there was a small % chance with every 5match for Jean to show up and stun the team. It sounds absolutely hilarious though.

As opposed to the 90% chance where there's at least one match-5 on the board when Teen Jean is one of the three original enemy team members? :s

And if you refuse to take that, you WILL Cascade into a match 5 from the match you made instead.

Yeah, the passives of Teen Jean and 2Storm (and others) can trigger on board/damage events that happened PRIOR to them entering the opponent wave. This has been a bug since day 1 of wave nodes and it has never been fixed (although there may have been a half-assed attempt at it at some point). So yeah, that's dev priority for you

You say this tomayto is full of bugs, I say the tomahto has a plethora of serendipitous features.
