Mechanics

Roles and Role Tokens

Roles are icon evergreens that can be given to creatures. When a creature receives a Role evergreen, any other Role evergreens that were previously on that creature are removed. When a creature receives a Role evergreen, a Role token support related to that Role is created. Below, are the hints of the 6 different roles:

“When a creature gains Wicked Role, remove all other Role evergreens that creature has. Then, that creature’s controller creates a Wicked Role token.”

“When a creature gains Cursed Role, remove all other Role evergreens that creature has. Then, that creature’s controller creates a Cursed Role token.”

“When a creature gains Young Hero Role, remove all other Role evergreens that creature has. Then, that creature’s controller creates a Young Hero Role token.”

“When a creature gains Monster Role, remove all other Role evergreens that creature has. Then, that creature’s controller creates a Monster Role token.”

“When a creature gains Royal Role, remove all other Role evergreens that creature has. Then, that creature’s controller creates a Royal Role token.”

“When a creature gains Sorcerer Role, remove all other Role evergreens that creature has. Then, that creature’s controller creates a Sorcerer Role token.”

Below, are each of the Role token supports that are related to the Role icon evergreens:

Wicked Role
Support - Enchantment Aura Role
Colorless
[Token] At the beginning of your turn, your creatures with Wicked Role get +1/+1 for each of their reinforcements until the beginning of your next turn. When a creature with Wicked Role loses Wicked Role, is destroyed or loses a reinforcement, your opponent loses 3 life for each of that creature’s reinforcements.
At the end of each turn, if you don’t control a creature with Wicked Role, destroy this support.
When this support is destroyed, all creatures you control lose Wicked Role.

Cursed Role
Support - Enchantment Aura Role
Colorless
[Token] At the beginning of your turn, the base power and toughness of your creatures with Cursed Role become 1/1 until the beginning of your next turn.
At the end of each turn, if you don’t control a creature with Cursed Role, destroy this support.
When this support is destroyed, all creatures you control lose Cursed Role.

[Token] When a creature you control with Young Hero Role attacks, it gets +1/+1.

Monster Role
Support - Enchantment Aura Role
Colorless
[Token] At the beginning of your turn, your creatures with Monster Role get +3/+3 and gain Trample until the beginning of your next turn.
At the end of each turn, if you control no creatures with Monster Role, destroy this support.
When this support is destroyed, all creatures you control lose Monster Role.

Royal Role
Support - Enchantment Aura Role
Colorless
[Token] At the beginning of your opponent’s turn, they may drain X mana from their hand. X is the number of creatures you control with Royal Role times 4. If they don’t, your creatures with Royal Role gain hexproof and vigilance until end of turn.
At the end of each turn, if you control no creatures with Royal Role, destroy this support.
When this support is destroyed, all creatures you control lose Royal Role.

Sorcerer Role
Support - Enchantment Aura Role
Colorless
[Token] When you cast a noncreature card, your creatures with Sorcerer Role get +2/+2 until end of turn. When a creature you control with Sorcerer Role attacks, fetch the first noncreature card from your library.
At the end of each turn, if you control no creatures with Sorcerer Role, destroy this support.
When this support is destroyed, all creatures you control lose Sorcerer Role.

Bargain

Bargain is an ability that allows players to sacrifice a role or a support they control while casting cards with bargain in order to trigger additional effects.

“When you cast this card, choose between Role, Support and None. If you choose Role or Support, a random card you control of the chosen type is destroyed and you perform this card’s bargain effects.”

Celebration

Celebration is an evergreen condition related to the numerical value of cards that entered play under the player’s control during each turn, up to 2. When it reaches its maximum value, the condition is fulfilled.

“When a nonland card enters play under your control, increase this card’s Celebration value by 1, up to 2. At the end of each turn, this card’s Celebration value becomes 0.”

“If this card’s Celebration value is 2, perform this card’s associated Celebration effect.”

New Planeswalkers

Ashiok, Wicked Manipulator

Ashiok travels the Multiverse in perpetual search of the perfect embodiment of fear. After tasting nightmares from Mirrans and Phyrexians alike, Ashiok told Elspeth that they had a new purpose, and planeswalked to Eldraine, and keeps observing the minds affected by the Eternal Slumber. What they wants with it, is still unknown.

  • Passive Ability - Counting the Black Sheep
    When you lose life during your turn: Exile the top card of your library. This card gains the Nightmare Emblem. If that is a Black card — You gain life equal to half that card's mana cost. This effect can trigger only once per turn.

  • Ability 1 - Pulled from Dreams
    Pick 2 of the first 4 cards from your library. Fetch those cards. They gain 7 mana. Exile all the cards not fetched this way. Those cards gain the Nightmare emblem.

  • Ability 2 - Tangible Fears
    Create 6 Black Nightmare Tokens. You may have them gain Imminent Death.

      [Token, Berserker, Deathtouch] When this creature deals combat damage to your opponent's Planeswalker: Exile the top card of your library. This card gains the EnergyType_Nightmare_title Emblem.

      When this creature dies or loses a reinforcement: You lose 5 life.

  • Ability 3 - You’ll Never Sleep Again
    Exile the top 5 cards from your library. Those cards gain the Nightmare Emblem. Opposing creatures get -X/-X until the beginning of your next turn. Your opponent loses X life. X is the number of cards with the Nightmare Emblem in your exile.

Wrenn and Realmbreaker

To stop the Phyrexian Invasion, Wrenn the dryad fused with the Realmbreaker after a very tense escape from a trap. It was Wrenn who found Eight inside the tree after everyone’s sacrifices to make her reach the Invasion Tree, and with access to all the Multiverse, she was able to finally find Teferi in Zhalfir.

  • Passive Ability - Worldwide Roots
    When you make a match by swap of any color except Green: Convert 2 gems to the most present color on the board. Increase your mana bonus of that color by 1 until end of turn.

  • Ability 1 - Reclaim From Lost Realms
    Destroy the top 2 cards of your library. Then: Pick one of the first 4 Creature or Support cards from your graveyard and put into your hand. It gains X mana. X is the number of Land cards you control plus 3.

  • Ability 2 - Infusion of the Multiverse
    Target creature you control gains the Land subtype. It gets +X/+X and gains Reach, Trample and Hexproof until the beginning of your next turn. X is the number of Land cards you control, including their reinforcements plus the number of Land cards in your graveyard.

  • Ability 3 - Root Resonator
    Create 4 Rich Soil Tokens. Convert 7 gems to the colors of the first Creature or Support card in your graveyard.

      [Token] When you make a match by swap: Return the first Creature or Support card with that match's colors from your graveyard to play under your control.
      Reinforce that card X times. If that is a Creature card — It gains Haste until end of turn. X is the number of Land cards you control, including their reinforcements.
      At the beginning of your turn: Increase each of your mana bonuses by the number of cards with that color in your graveyard until the beginning of your next turn.

Black Nightmare

(Black) Creature - (1/1) Token, Berserker, Deathtouch

When this creature deals combat damage to your opponent's Planeswalker: Exile the top card of your library. This card gains the Nightmare Emblem.

When this creature dies or loses a reinforcement: You lose 5 life.

Changes and Fixes

Events

  • Fixed: Receiving Toxic Counters does not count towards the "Aggressive" Objective anymore
  • Replaced objectives featured in Return of the God-Pharaoh, Tour de Ravnica and Routes of Ravnica.
    • Recruit: Cast 3 creatures with cost 10 or less -> Nimble: Cast X (5) or more cards with cost Y (10) or less.
    • Striker: Deal 20 or more damage during a single turn. -> Reanimator: Summon X (13) or more Zombies in a single fight.
    • Spellsmith: Cast 3 or more enchantments during a single fight. -> Artificer: Cast X (5) or more supports during a single fight.
    • Call to Arms: Create 8 or more Creature Tokens  during a single fight. -> Researcher: Draw X (12) or more cards during a single fight.

Cards and Planeswalkers

  • Fixed:Activate Gem trigger of the Scarab God card not performing as described.
  • Fixed: Marisi, Breaker of the Coil's card disabling effect lasting after intended duration.
  • Fixed: Creatures with Prevent Damage not being destroyed by Casualty mechanic.
  • Fixed: Cyclone Summoner crashing the game when returning flipped two sided creatures to any player's hand.
  • Fixed: Watching an Ad after opening a Free Booster locking Deck Editing functionality.
  • Fixed: Khalni Garden locking the game when interacting with cards that Seed multiple Gems.

Balancing Changes

  • Changed the Mythic card Ichormoon Gauntlet(ONE)

    • Before the change: "When you cast a Support or Spell card: Proliferate. Escalate."
    • After the change: "When you cast a Support or Spell card: Proliferate. Escalate. This effect can trigger up to 4 time(s) per turn."
  • Changed the Mythic card Urza's Saga (DMU)

    • Before the change: "Fetch the first Artifact card from your library. It gains mana equal to the amount of Loyalty you have."
    • After the change: "Fetch the first Artifact card from your library. It gains mana equal to the amount of Loyalty you have. Then: Destroy this support."
  • Changed the Uncommon card Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer (SNC)

    • Stored Mana (20) -> (12)
  • Changed the Mythic card Blade of Shared Souls (ONE)

    • Before the change: "For Mirrodin! When this support enters the board: Create a copy of target nontoken creature into the battlefield under your control."
    • After the change: "For Mirrodin! When this support enters the board: Create a copy of target nontoken creature into the battlefield under your control. This effect can trigger up to 3 time(s) per turn."
  • Changed the Mythic card Bladecoil Serpent (BRO)

    • Before the change: [Haste, Trample] When this creature enters the battlefield: Draw X cards. Those cards gain X mana. X is the number of Blue gems on the board. Your opponent discards cards equal to the number of Black gems on the board. This creature gets +Y/+0 until end of turn. Y is the number of Red gems on the board. Activate each of these effects only if you matched gems of their respective color this turn."
    • After the change: "[Haste, Trample] When this creature enters the battlefield: Draw X cards. Those cards gain X mana. X is equal to half the number of Blue gems on the board, rounded down. Your opponent discards Y cards. Y is equal to half the number of Black gems on the board, rounded down. If there are 6 or more Black gems — Your opponent discards a card. This creature gets +Z/+0 until end of turn. Z is the number of Red gems on the board. Activate each of these effects only if you matched gems of their respective color this turn."
  • Changed the Masterpiece card Curse of Vitality (DMU)

    • Before the change: "When your opponent loses life or is dealt damage: You gain 4 life."
    • After the change: "When a creature you control attacks: Gain 4 life for each creature and creature reinforcements you control, up to 60."

New Events and Vanguards

As discussed in this thread, this project went through some changes during the development cycle of Wilds of Eldraine. We wanted to make sure that we would release this set within schedule and that all necessary checks would be completed in time. We know how excited you all are for this new content and we reaffirm our commitment to bring it with quality and care.

As such, to adequate this release to our time constraints, events will come a little later this time. New events, alongside new vanguard cards, will be coming in a future patch, scheduled to the end of October. Stay tuned. ;)

New Products

We have a few new bundle types debuting:

Fast Leveling Bundle (100 Mana Crystals)

This is a bundle with a focus on new players, to help them have a way to get their first or second Planeswalker to 60 and improve their first-time experience with the game. There are better uses in general to Mana Crystals, but having the option to accelerate their first Planeswalkers is important.

A Fast-Leveling Bundle gives you 10,000 Mana Runes.

Booster Box (79,99)

Sometimes, a single booster isn't enough. Now, we have a way to get an entire booster box of boosters! And if you decide to get the box, there are some extras inside! ;)

A Booster Box comes with 36 Booster Packs + 2 Rare+ Packs + 1 Mythic+ Pack + Exclusive Card Heartflame Duelist.

Collector's Box (95,99)

VIPs are an important part of the playerbase. They also deserve products designed for them. The collector's boxes are for those who want to take the extra mile towards completing their collections.
