I am pretty sure, that with tablet of compleation, the mana field trigger doesn't happen if you match loyalty gems. I know it isn't supposed to give you mana every time, only once it got oil counter, this is not the reason why it seems to not trigger. I also didn't experience this with any other mana field effect.
