How does Shield Hopping work?

Just out of curiosity, how do you do it effectively, what's the goal, what is it? I keep hearing about it being this thing people do to score high, and that it's pricy... Anyone have any details?

  • It's real simple. You push for points then shield. Wait for all the retaliations and attacks to come in, then come out of your shield and make another push. Then shield again.

You (generally) get about 5-10 minutes to make a hop. So, you can get 2-3 wins in that time if you use AP boosts and/or have a strong team.

While you are shielded, you are periodically hitting skip to find the most optimal opponents (for both points and ease of win) to set yourself up for the next hop.
  • Also, leave at least 30 minutes between hops so any active players either skip you or attack you during that time.

Anything past an hour you can't really predict.
  • Aight, makes sense. Thanks!
  • If you're not pressed for time you should obviously try to ride as much time out of your shielded state as possible since the longer you're shielded, the more likely you clear out any outstanding retaliation so that you don't get hit by them when you do unshield. It might help if you keep track of the guys you're attacking to see if they've cleared out their retaliation, since those are the most likely candidates. That is, if you attacked A B C D E and then shield up, you probably want to wait until you see most of these guys hit you back before doing a shield hop, assuming time is not a constrain, especially if you know you left some juicy retaliations out there like hitting a guy 200 point below you.
