Who bought the 5* IM35 offer? Good deal, or buyer's remorse?

How did people feel about the value proposition of a mediocre 5* for $12-25 (depending on platform and location)?

Is the prospect of an easy-to-level 5* attractive enough to overcome IM35's mediocre kit? Would more people have bought a 5* Spidey?

It seems clear that BCS plans to monetize selling ascendant variants pretty aggressively, and it's not yet clear to me how we players should be evaluating these offers.

In my mind it was a no brainer purchase.

    it means every 4 ironman covers - i get 25cp or 250hp.

It's unlikely i'll use him much but the rewards i would get from him will increase my earnings.

Not sure if i'd need to buy more of them.

The benefit is immediately changing your 1* iron man covers into 5* rewards. Think of it more like VIP than buying a 5* character.

To that end, because they put a band-aid on the rewards for the first 20-30 levels, so many haven't seen the full benefit of yet until they switch back and we get the retro rewards.

I bought because I don't want to deal with 16 copies of Storm across 5 rarity tiers.

I didn't think of it this way, but it's a fair point. I didn't buy it because I figured I'd get one eventually, and I wasn't in a rush. I'd also just duped my 1* IM. I'd not considered the rewards element of it in my thinking.

This is a good perspective. I might respond that it's less of a rewards purchase (i.e., buying rewards that you would not otherwise get) than it is a timeshift (moving the time frame in which you will get those rewards up by several months).

Personally, I did not buy because (1) IM35 seems unlikely to see a lot of play for my team since his kit is mediocre at best, and (2) I was leery of dropping that much money on such new feature when we really had very little data with which to estimate the value.

But it sounds like it may have been a pretty successful direct offer for D3/BCS. I wonder if we will see more of them for anniversary or around the end-of-year holidays. I might be more willing to pay for a 5* spidey, whose kit would probably stand out a bit more in 5* land, even if he wasn't in the meta. and ascended Juggs, Hawkeye, or 2* Storm would also get my attention.

The way I see it, this game is really just a resource management game. on top of HP/CP/ISO/Shards/RosterSlots, etc we also have TIME and MONEY.

on a long enough timeline we'll get everything. we use all of our resources to speed that up - either by spending CP for covers, for tokens. investing in farms, or paying for something.

Why is that even a question lol.
They'll sell you every 1 and 2* character at various rarity levels from here on out.

Yes, we will obviously see more offers if the first one was successful. It was more the secondary considerations like "Is BCS ready with a second round of offers for this week?" and "What pricing will they offer moving forward?" that are still unclear.

With Demi back in the day there was a very clear trend of "if a new offer seems like good value then buy it now because it will be a lot worse the second time around." (e.g. 5* covers for the very first run of civil war but never again from demi, or how the anniversary vaults got a little worse each year from 3-->8). We will see if BCS decides to operate the same way

this is true. One of the things I least enjoy about live service games is the constant need as a player to weigh time/money against entertainment value, even for largely trivial game activities.

They happily keep repeating the chain offers which give 800 CP.
So they'll keep selling and repeating those character offers.

For me it was a worthwhile decision. Every 13 covers for 1* iron man, I would get 100 iso for selling them. This way I don't have the hassle of micromanaging a series of 1* iron man dupes through the tiers, instead I get much better use from cover that I was always earning and selling. For a little over the cost of VIP it was a fair exchange. I won't buy all 1s in this manner, but it was a useful experiment to see the difference. I've a few decent 5 champs, so won't be battling with him at all

It was a big no for me. Even Spidey and Juggs I’d have to think about. I don’t want them being my highest 5* characters and they easily would be, pushing up my MMR. I’m okay with building naturally over many many months.

BCS has definitely been running things a little differently than demi. They have focused much more on direct buy offers like those chains you mention, as well as loosening the spigot on 5* covers for more than a year now.

It's getting close to 18 months of this new style, so maybe I should start expecting it to continue, but i am still well-trained to expect a demi-like gradual tightening of resources over time, with occasional, grudging changes that benefited players.

BCS has brought a page of multioffers that never stops if you scroll it down :D
But that's perfectly fine. All the offers needed for all players type, all resources deals, and of course the monetizarion for everything continues moving and why not, giving benefits.
I must say after champions 2.0 and after chasm rebalance (he is still pretty strong for call it a nerf), I've begun to spend a bit like many many months ago. Because now I see: a good work being done, not that many flaws or hiccups on programming, and actions supporting their good words.
So, without actually needing it, I find myself looking offers and starting to support the game again.
Specifically on these ascended characters, personally I think the fun is to collect them and not buying a character pretty developed, but again that's because I have enough resources in order to get them fast.
So again is a matter of the spot where you are situationally in the game, which makes to preference your choice.

Absolute no-brainer instant purchase. Storm was too. It's a champion 5* for $20 -- there is no universe where you can buy a 450 for that price.
