Way to make pvp more fun

As I have gotten a full 3-star roster, I have noticed placing in the top 10 in PvP has become MUCH more difficult without spending at least 225-300 HP on shields. This in and of itself is not what I see as the biggest problem. 300 HP for 2 3-star covers is, in some ways, a "good" deal. The problem is how utterly stressful and demoralizing it is to try to race up between shields.

As a proposed change, add an alternate shield that costs more, shields for less time, but allows one to play through the shield. Perhaps something along the lines of 1 hour for 100 or 200 hp? I am fine with the average cost for getting top 10 being the same, but I think a change like this would better reward good play, it would remove an element of luck, and in general, make PvP more fun.

I can see how this could be viable for much shorter time intervals -- perhaps 5 minutes or 10 minutes. However, a one-hour one-way shield is frankly a horrifying idea.

A typical three-fight shieldhop probably lasts about 3-6 minutes, and can pretty reliably net you 90 points -- mine last about 5-6 minutes, and I don't have a speed-kill team. A one-hour one-way shield would create invincible pushes that easily top 400 points (3 min per queue-and-fight x 20 fights x 20 points per fight = 400 points). I'm not sure you'd really enjoy the death brackets that would ensue.

Maybe there's a middle ground, a way to make PvP less horrifying for players who prefer to take their time with it or don't have super-scarecrow teams. Something like a shield that limits you to not losing more than 15 points while you complete a match.

I definitely feel that PvP is horrific and un-fun right now. It makes me want to quit the game, because something about my MMR or my team or my speed of play makes me get attacked WAY more than I can win. Not even when I'm up around 900 points, but from like 700 on. It really just makes you want to cry to go into a match expecting to earn 30 points and come out and find you've lost 100.
  • I just shoot for top 50. With my alliance rewards, that means I am getting two covers and at most I only have to spend 75 HP on shields (if any at all).
  • Allowing to play through the shield would just turn the game into a huge P2W fest. The people spending the most would shield through the entire event.

I agree. A 1 hour one way shield would just kill PVP for me. I already hate the current PVP system as it is and only compete for my Alliance to get points. NTM, Could you just imagine the last hour of a PVP with those kind of shields? It would HULK SMASH the servers into oblivion and take the whole game off line. icon_lol.gif

There was a thread about making PVP(versus) into truly PVP. (Thread Link) And I would completely support that. But sadly, (1) I don't see that happening, and (2) if it did, it would be a server nightmare. The servers are already over loaded.

Generally speaking bandwidth is cheap so I don't see a problem with hardware.

The bigger problem with PvP is coming up with a framework for such a system to even make sense without taking a crazy long time to finish.

This is the structure that I suggested in the other thread for PVP.
    • Each player, upon entering their first match would be given X amount of points (no seed teams needed).
      .
    • For players who get beaten to a zero score, they could either
      • Have a regenerative system that you receive X amounts of points for each day played that come along with your daily resupply. OR
      • Have a negative based system that allows you to keep playing. If each match is say 25pts and you are negative 75pts, you would need to win 4 matches to get back into the positive.
      .
    • No matchmaking required. Choose/search from list of available players and click "Challenge". (Players who are in a match can be hidden or marked as "in match".) You'd be able to see their roster, but you won't know who they are going to play against you until you enter the match and vice versa. .
      .
    • When you open the "sub-tab" into the PVP event screen, it could give you a list of players that have "Challenged" you to a match and you could accept or deny the challenge. No penalties for denying. No bonuses for taking them all. (EDIT: Coin flip for who goes first.)
      .
    • Every match would have to be a set value. Not based off of the opponents score.
      .
    • No need to put strict time limits on true PVE. It can be monthly or weekly.
      .
    • Put a timer on matches. Since we already are online to play MPQ, each move you are allotted 30 seconds to take your turn. If you don't make your move in 30 secs, you lose your turn. Put a fail-safe into the match that after an opp has lost 3 turns due to time outs, it gives you the option to "continue match", or "force resignation" and you win the match and the points.
  • No way, that just makes it a pay to win tournament. Someone will wait until the last day to play, shield themselves for 24 hours and keep attacking everyone else.

Personally, I don't think we should lose points because the AI is too stupid to play our characters for us. They could at least limit people attacking us to one player at a time.
