I have an absolutely incredible love/hate relationship with this game, just ask my wife she will tell you in many 4 letter words. I have chosen to be strictly free-to-play for a various reasons; I'm cheap, I enjoy earning my rewards, I am disgruntled towards the developers due to the evolution towards pay-to-win, and many other reasons. I do not however wish the D3 ill in anyway, I actually would like to see them, and MPQ thrive, if for no other reason than the pure love(sometimes hate) of this game.
I would like to plant a seed that hopefully D3 can nurture and grow into a money tree, so we can all enjoy the rewards of a game that could be returned to mentally challenging instead of merely pocket book dampening. I believe you(D3) need find a way to leave the game exactly as it is, but remove the label of free-to-play(because really it no longer will be once you end self healing). Present the game as a full function demo, with no limits other than the restriction of in-game purchases until the game itself is purchased for $20.
The key to having people purchase the game for $20 would be that it will come with an unprecedented amount of both Iso-8 and HP, which would also be available to all current players as a one time purchase and I think the minimum amount included in said purchase should be no less than 250,000 ISO-8 and 2500 HP. I believe by the time new players are actually ready to make their first purchase, they will have a good sense of just how the economy of the game works and what little value there is in current pricing, but will see the $20 as a small price to pay for a very intriguing game and can use their discretion for future purchases. Simply put, if you can coax $20 out of a 100,000 players you will be so much further into the black than trying to get $100-$1000 out of a small handful of players as seems to be the case at the moment.
Even better give two options at time of purchase, $4.99 for the option to purchase game and unlock in game purchasing or $19.99 to purchase game, unlock in game purchasing and get one time starter pack gift of 250,000 ISO-8 and 2500 HP. I honestly think a business plan in this direction could not only increase your income 10 fold, it could put you on the map as the most innovative tech developer of the moment.
Of course like I said above, this same $19.99 purchase would have to be made available to all current players of the game as well, not as a sale mind you, but as a one time purchase, with unlimited time on the offer. Personally this would give myself and I sure many other free-to-play players the perfect opportunity to give you the support you deserve in an amount that is conducive to what this game actually is, that being nothing more than a simple time wasting application game.
I admit that I have likely overlooked many downsides to this theory. I fully expect to hear feed back from forum goers who are much smarter than myself, and can explain exactly how or why this model will not work, even some that will be obviously inspired by the that fact that this will certainly belittle previous efforts at becoming pay-to-win superstars. Yes the Idea of people paying a fee to purchase nothing other than the ability to spend money seems absolutely ludicrous, but you have to keep in mind just exactly how addicting and challenging this simple, yet effective time waster, called MPQ, can be. As well as the fact that in reality anyone who does make purchases of this kind, is purchasing absolutely nothing other than a hobby, a game, a source of amusement. There is no material aspect, unless D3 decided to include a hat or t-shirt, which is a whole other forum thread, and in reality they are asking people to spend money on nothing more than bits and bytes of electrical pulses anyway.
Or maybe this is just my way of asking for an easy out for the guilt I feel, for not supporting the developers over the past 220+ days I have enjoyed MPQ. Either way this is my story and I am sticking to it.
thank you for your time,
