Some characters are placed in this list based on what colors their abilities are (Grey Widow, Lazy Daken for instance) and some based on what their "strong" colors are for match damage even though one of those colors is a passive ability or nonexistent ability. That's a bit confusing?

Anyway, I'd like to see third ability for Doom (green as his cape/hood) and Loki (yellow - something to thwart Thor maybe?) since Magneto has a purple and matches yellow it would complete a circle of yellow -> purple -> green -> yellow of matches-one-but-uses-another-color for those villains.

And in general if every combination of colors had at least one character using it I wouldn't be unhappy about that.

I've mentioned this in other threads ... there are a handful of existing characters that could benefit from a color change in a way that would fill an unused color combo.

HUMAN TORCH -- RRBKGG -> RRBKYY
HULK -- GGRRBK -> GGPUBK.
HOOD --YYBUBK -> YYPUBK.
WOLVERINE -- GGRRYY -> GGRRBU

For Hulk and Human Torch, that also fits with their colors. Might be too late to do it with HT -- he has a good dynamic with Daken, and changing his colors now would ruin that. Hood's best partner is LazyCap, and a color change would make them a bit stronger. A color change for Hulk would be a nerf for both Mags and OBW.

I could see this as an option. If you have any number of Hulk's Red covers, you could choose to pay 100HP to change them all to Purple covers, and to have his Red/Purple tile match damage swapped. Someone with Purple covers could pay 100HP to change them back to red. Myself, I would definitely pay the 100HP for this option. In PvP, people might want to check if they were facing a Red Hulk or a Purple Hulk, but otherwise it would have no effect on people not wanting the change.

EDIT -- She-Hulk will be GGRRBU so nix the Wolverine change.

I've been thinking of making a thread like this for a while but never got to it, but I'm glad it was executed well. I don't really care what color combinations come out, but we really need to stop with the red/yellow/green, red/green/x, red/yellow/x, and green/yellow/x characters and go for something that is actually unique and hasn't been used yet. I just want more purple and black abilities that are actually usable for dealing damage and not to have as a passive. Blue isn't a common ability either, but we need diversity and not duality.

We're very short on good yellow abilities and to a lesser extent active purples. Yellow/purple/black or yellow/purple anything but green or red (because there's a zillion green and red abilities).

And we know the next character release is Red-Green-Blue. On the one hand, technically a new combination but on the other hand RED AND GREEN AGAIN AAAARGH.

The fact that Punisher, Patch, Hulk, LazyThor and C.Mags seem to be the most popular maxed 3* in use (partly due to availability, partly due to power) is another reason why we're really well and truly sick of characters with green and red and happy to see more purple and yellow. It's not just that almost every new character seems to have a green, a red or both... it's that the ones we've actually put in the effort to max have green or red or both.

While I, like many, cry for more purple/yellow/black for 3*s (in that order), heck, another good blue is fine, too (only have cMags and Cap among 141s, with BP and Psy not being up to snuff), I can agree with the argument that the green/red are often combined in one character on purpose so as to not let the player bring a rainbow machine of death to all matches.
The closest we have is BP/LT actively covering 5/6 and with good damage on 4/6, but it's mitigated by the slowness and lack of good strike tiles.
I guess She-Hulk will punch hard on her green/red abilities, but what's with the blue, no idea. Meanwhile Psylocke cries in a distant corner for not having compatible purple users besides Falcon, and Falcon cries for being pidgeonholed into PvE.

Punisher/C.Mags covers all but yellow. They're a fantastic combination, actually. Even the overlap on red isn't a bad thing because both red abilities are useful in different situations. The 3rd character tends to be either whichever 3rd wheel is required in the PvP or PvE event, or whichever character has the best yellow ability (LazyThor, regular Thor or IM40, most likely... I think I mentioned the severe lack of good yellow abilities in this game).

"It will make it too easy to rainbow" is not a good argument. Why introduce new characters at all if they're completely uninteresting to everyone because they'll just take up huge amounts of ISO in order to do the same job in a lineup as the rest of the green/red crew.

I know that Punisher/cMags are unstoppable. In the hands of a player, sure. But neither of them is a machine of death which is mostly relegated to green/yellow/red types: Thor, Ares, Sentry, arguably Patch. Punisher and Magneto are more of the utility type and not raw (un)conditional damage.
If we think of the three most damaging guys in the game, it's easily LT/Sentry/Patch, and it's a good thing that they have the same colours, because face it, would you want to deny the whole rainbow of death abilities and not just 3/6?
Edit: they also have the most health barring the Hulk (Patch with level 5 regen is easily a tank unless you can oneshot him), whereas Magneto/Punisher die to match damage alone.

As for the interesting argument, I dunno. The game has to story-tell Dark Reign, after all. Many people will find good use for Sentry (his abilities are cheaper than LT's) and many have already maxed him out. He seems to fulfill a different role, likewise Ares/Thor** have different roles.
