I pay a little a month on the game, you can get the covers with F2P as i spent months and months not paying and refusing to until i got in an alliance and needed space for the roster. in the PVP i just grind it early mornings UK time and get to the top space and shield for a day and then last 20-30 mins grind a bit more0

Hell, wait until the 3 ability for Fury drops. You're gonna **** your breeches when you see 240 Nick Fury right after the rewards go out.
I think i will **** my breeches if anyone ever get a lvl 240 Nick Fury in their roster. Well because that is just impossible.0 -

It does suck how pay to win this game can get.
You have to also understand that the top 10 alliances also get a lot of HP from PVP and PVE placements.0 -

ditto...i paid for a few Uber Dakan covers because i knew that he would qiickly beckme an important part of my roster. I think Sentry will also become important to DEF but i havent quite figured out how/if he fits into my style, so i prob wont be buying any covers right away.

Its not even the covers thats the issue when someone pays for them. Its the ISO which in a lot of cases those people are paying for as well (which is crazy). Its changes the cost of a character from say 70$ to hundreds instead.0

Having played Daken a little I dont really see the appeal. i get that hes a good passive character but I really dont like him clogging up the board for a red user. Sentry on the other hand is the type of glass cannon high damage self killing Patch type character I like. I was planning on level L Thor or Pyslocke but Sentry is super appealing to me if they drop his covers in the next pvp like they did with Daken. If thats the case and I end up with the same 7-8 I have with Daken then I'll likely buy sentry covers and start leveling him.0 -
Yea...I'm looking at Colognoisseurs maxed Sentry, Daken, and Psylocke team in a node...I'll get back to yinz on how quickly I lose this match. Gotta try it out right?0

That guy single handedly finances the payroll for D3. I need to get into the business of freemium games.0 -
Always a few of those floating around in these games. I know people on Rage Of Bahamut who spent well over $1000 per month on it because they had little better to do. Hell, even I made $900 on that game selling in game items to top players.0

You're not wrong. Problem was that there was just as many people on lower incomes trying to keep up by spending all their weekly cash too.
I once took a year off work to play WoW which cost me ten's of thousands in retrospect. People do stupid stuff when they're addicted.0 -
Alright I'm still alive. I beat Colognoisseur and his mighty lineup...I went with 141 Thor, 141 Daken, and my 183 Psylocke. Boosted 3 green and black ap to get Call of the storm off early.
Took out Sentry first to prevent any of those skills going off...took Daken second to prevent any additional strike tiles...it was 5 turns before either team matched a green. Psylocke with the Katana killed my Psylocke, after that she was out of ap...stole yellow from me, useless for her.
That was a fun match, but trying to place decently while fighting these teams every pvp is no longer a possibility.0 -

DaveyPitch wrote:I definitely see Sentry being very useful at the business end of a PvP tournament where speed is king, but I don't think he'll be as useful during the climb where characters like LT, Patch and cMags will still be key characters. Sentry will be perfect when losing health is less important than seeing how many matches you can win during a 5 minute unshielded spell. If I had the spare cash and all 3 covers for him (I don't have either) I wouldn't be too opposed to buying more covers for him. I'd still rather have Lazy Daken though, he fits into my general team lineup much better than Sentry does.HailMary wrote:rawl316 wrote:They don't get that much where they can just max out any new character.0

Thepenismightier wrote:And good luck to those not having tons of time and not paying to win who find themselves in the same bracket with people who can pull this and similar combos off. I'm not trying to start an argument but saying this game isn't pay to win at all just isn't true. If you've got a whole lot of time to devote to this one game, eventually you can ok. If not and you aren't paying good luck staying in one of the top alliances where you can consistently get those third color covers, or even doing well enough to get the first two in a week long event.0

I just want to throw out there that top alliances have spent so much to maintain top position that they are unlikely to have saved up enough HP to buy 10X Sentry covers. That is more than likely a straight up Stark Salary to buy the covers.
There was a glory day of 500 HP per PVP event that S.H.I.E.L.D won the lion share of that made pretty good profits, but the competitions in season 1 among the top PVP alliances showed us losing HP overall in shield hopping in order to maintain top spot.
Personally in my alliance we did a cost benefit analysis and determined that spending 400HP in order to secure a 250HP prize was not very cost effective. At any rate, we are not making enough HP to buy 10 covers by a long shot. I spent my easter egg on daken covers and got him maxed out pretty quick, but I can assure you that top alliances are not raking in enough to max out back to back covers.
I want me some Sentry Covers too, but I am not spending $100 on him, I can wait.
I really wish they made the covers cheaper to buy, I like to collect and play with them, but I do not like having to take a second mortgage in order to do it.0 -

Also I'd like to add that within a few weeks of people buying every daken cover, he was rewarded a few more times which when you add the 3 more placement covers, you'd get a maxed out daken with very little luck from his tokens.
They might do this with Sentry, who knows but one thing is for certain, patience is a lot cheaper.
And no one who has these guys maxed did so because of tournament HP rewards and if they say otherwise, they're full of it0 -
From what I can tell there's a general trend of making 3/3/3 reasonably obtainable for any new hero, but if you miss the boat during the initial covers you might be waiting for a very long time. I think that's quite fair. The guys with money can spend it and get an immediate advantage, and those who don't want to spend money can wait for 3/3/3 and then maybe shell out 2500 HP to upgrade the 'must have' ability and have a level 110 or so hero that's still quite functional.
Assuming you're constantly buying roster slots for new heroes and you're also winning the new heroes being released I have a hard time of seeing anyone making more than 3000 HP a month. I get the 100 HP placement award for virtually every PvE event, plus 100 HP for alliance, and I almost always get all the PvE sub/main awards, and I'm still only sitting on about 3500 HP and I spend at most 150 HP on shields unless it's something I really need. You get 150 more HP for top 2 alliances, but to get that kind of score usually involves spending more than 150 HP on shields to maintain your position. I guess you can also get that in PvE but PvE takes an extreme amount of effort and you don't exactly have too many opportunities to earn 250 HP in PvE either.
Of course, if you don't buy the roster slots you suddenly have a lot more HP to work with, though if you're someone who can routinely win new heroes you probably do want to collect them all since you certainly have the HP to keep them all around.
I do think moving forward we need to have a way to at least somewhat target the hero you're trying to get. For example Courageous pack should only have featured 3* if you pulled a 3* instead of just higher chance. Make it so that it only happens in the 10/40 packs if you want to encourage sales. If someone is buying 10 of those, they deserve to have more control, and it's not like the 6 heroes in the Courageous pack are all equally useful, so it's still a pretty big gamble. I doubt it'd be ordered by release order, because something like HT/Falcon/Daken/Sentry would be an incredibly good deal, but they should at least mix & match heroes that are no longer easy to get. For example, a pack that contains only Thor, Daredevil, Psylocke, Daken, and Human Torch for the 3* pulls would be reasonable mix of power I think.0
