Does vigilance trump defender if a creature has both?

My vigilant creature gained the defender evergreen. However, it still doesn’t block if it would die. Is this as intended? I thought defender would trump vigilance?

This matches my experience. AFAIK, this is another instance where the rules doesn’t seems to define the correct behaviour.

It doesn’t seem to matter whether it is a defender who gains vigilance or vice versa, the creature will only block according to the vigilance rules. Sometimes that is a good thing, sometimes not.

My expectation has always been that defender trumps vigilance, primarily, because that is the case when creatures are ordered on the battlefield.

    Hello guys,
I asked the GD and he told me that Vigilance will always have priority, no matter if it was given to a card or if it was native to it. Therefore, it works as designed.

    Thanks for the interest,
