Yep this has been a good event, not only from the tweaked points, but also for the interesting enemy structure (the story has been kind of fun too - hooray for most nodes having dialog!) and new art work. The free Sentry was an unexpected and quite welcome touch. I seem to have landed in a rather strange bracket, as I am 6th in the main with only 40.5k points, and a 2k lead over 7th, yet first place has 60k(!).This confuses me a little, as I have only played each node once or twice once a day, and not really worried about refreshes.etc. I guess it's wise not to look a gift-horse in the mouth.

scaling and burn out induced from it aside I have to say that the devs managed to hit the progression rewards just about dead on this time.
Also the Sentry cover as a gift to us is a nice step in the right direction.
Infact it's helped me from going back into the grind and burn myself to try to re-obtain my top 20 spot.

    Seriously, Ferret?

You and I know each other, so no offense intended here, but how hard is it to set up progression rewards when all the node points are set values and it's a grindfest?

I'm not going to congratulate D3 for passing Grade 4 math class.

In contrast to the general sentiment, I hated this event. Rubberbanding, while a sloppy solution, at least isn't putting constant time-refresh demands on me.

Wait til three more of these weeklongs hit and you're all grinding daily, and then we'll see where the general sentiment is at.
  • I liked this PvE too and thought the progression rewards were perfectly scaled. The only thing I worry about, is that with what I consider to be a relatively lackluster new character, that they'll look at a low participation rate in relation to the last PvE as an indication that we didn't like the design of this one.

The only gripe I've had with the lack of rubberbanding is if you've been unable to grind the **** out of one refresh you are SOL catching up to the leaders.

Day one, I was top 20. Day two, I had stuff to do (and server connectivity issues), fell to 150+ and never recovered. I think the highest I managed to get back to was about 105 but I've basically been cruising since the second set of subs closed with very little chance of actually getting any higher.

I've enjoyed this event for the most part. I'm starting to run into level 200+ enemies, but that's to be expected with the grinding.

The main positive of this event is the red Sentry cover. I'm in a rather difficult bracket, 51,012 currently has me in 28th. Grinding into the top 20 has been a challenge and I may not reach it again. So, the red cover will give me one of each now even if I miss out on the Top 20 Reward, so that is a plus.

The only thing that bothered me about this PvE was that I didn't become aware of the relative lack of rubberbanding until it was too late to make up the ground on the leaders. Beyond that, it was a really enjoyable event and I hope it continues in the future.

This made me pretty mad. Reducing rubberbanding in the middle of an event without warning is inconsiderate to the player base. I also was not able to play much and had planned to rubberband my way up the ranks last weekend only to discover they removed the elasticity. Wonderful. I was never able to recover after that.
  • It was fun. Which is the point of games really. So well done them.

This pretty much echoes what I wrote in the event thread (which shows I should read the rest of the forum before posting), so, yeah, thumbs up for this event :A

I agree mostly. I still think that progression rewards need some tweaking. Not a huge deal, but I know a lot of people that hit the Daken reward before or just after this sub. If they can cut the point meter for the final sub in half during the sub, they can add some progression rewards to the event too.
Then you'd have people complaining that progression rewards are, OMG yet again, completely unachievable because the devs are totally idiotic poopyfaces.
You have a point. I was thinking more of making them unlockable. Once someone in your sub hits the max default progression it unlocks the next, hidden, progression. Make it better by making the hidden progression "everyone in the sub gets x" and make x some ISO, or 50HP, or a random 2* cover, or a heroic token or something.

Did you happen to check the event standings before the event closed? I missed out on a top 20 finish, but it had to be close. I was hoping they would have put the standings up afterwards.

I made 17 and I didn't see you, so you must have been around 25th (saw 23rd or something).
I was actually looking for you to squeeze in, sorry you missed out icon_e_sad.gif

Mains were bracketed to 5000 players each too so he may not have been in yours. That's why you could be top 20 in your main, but top 100 in your subs. Different 5000 person brackets for each.

He was in mine, he was 20th and I was 21st - we were having a race icon_e_smile.gif

Awesome. I find competing against another player is just as, if not more, satisfying than competing against another alliance. I love competing against my alliance members.

I'm sure you have, but we all forget sometimes.
  • I agree with the OP, if the scaling was gone -- or at least the personal scaling element that forces suboptimal play -- this would be close to perfect. I'd probably reduce the point stacks to 3 maybe 2 too.

I checked with about 15 minutes to go and was 24th I think...the top 20 were all over 54k I believe. I got up to 54k, but it wasn't enough...the points had to be quite close.

All is well though...the red sentry cover as a gift essentially gave me top 20 anyway.

Curious to see how much I screwed my scaling though.

Curious to see how my scaling starts for simulator too.

I had to push hard for top 20 - I think I ended up on about 55-56k, in about 14th spot but only a few hundred points back to #20. Serves me right for just joining up as soon as the event opened and not waiting like I usually do. My 'hard' enemy levels were up to about 240 by the end, which I know doesn't sound unreasonable compared to all the guys fighting 395s, but I'm not a whale icon_rolleyes.gif
  • I was sooo happy last night to go to bed five hours before the end of the event in 13th and wake up 30 mins before the event having only slipped down to 19th. Seemingly in previous events I'd go to bed in a similar position and wake up 40th or something due to the excessive rubberbanding.

More like this please D3. Just over 7 days at the most (with bigger gaps inbetween if needed).
  • I thought the event was fun overall. The new artwork and change of pace from good guys to bad guys was refreshing. There was more story that actually motivated me to play through all the nodes just to find out what was going on. The subs were open long enough to allow players time to go through them. Having only one sub on the last leg was great. Having to bounce around between different sub events at the same time is annoying so having more nodes in one sub felt more engaging. With scaling the way it is there's no real need to have a normal/hard mode of subs in my opinion.

Giving out a cover of the new character should be done in all new character introductions. One cover is not that big of a deal to upset the competitive aspect of the game and it rewards players for playing through a long event. Since only top 5% will place well enough to earn a cover, giving out one through a node is a good way to retain players.

    Things that I don't like:
Changing rubberbanding after the event already started.

Removing the rubberband completely. D3, is it your intention to make this a hardcore game? I do feel for those that have to deal with event ending times ending at inconvenient times. However, no rubberband favors those with more time to play. Players grinding more should get more, but those putting in more time are already being rewarded by getting all the node rewards which means more iso/boosts. It's hard enough to progress in this game and if you're a gamer in the middle of casual and hardcore you're basically screwed, since you'd have to rely on token rewards for progression like the casual players.

Community meters. Why? Especially when they have to adjust it because it's just too difficult for them to calculate how fast or slow it will fill. I think it would be better to just put the meter on a timer to open up nodes with 12 hrs left in the sub. It doesn't motivate me to grind any differently. I don't see the forum light up with posts about pushing harder to unlock it, so the community really doesn't care about it other than to try to time it so they know when to check for something new.

Event tokens. The almost nonexistent chance of winning the featured 3* is laughable.
  • guess I did miss one important point that a lot of posters have pointed out. the pve was fun, and the most fun I've had on here in a while.
