The last 24 hours ends the game for me

So I've had a run of events that finally culminated in uninstalling the game from my phone, but it was fun while I had it.

First, I accepted the fact that since I'm on the east coast I would never get any event rewards. Esp since we have gotten confirmation that the developers are aware of the unfair playing field but don't feel it is something that needs changed. So I just focused on the progression rewards and managed to build up almost 2,000 of HP. Then things started to come apart...

The Lightning Rounds yesterday proved very frustrating. My Level 83 Thor and Level 61 MK40 just weren't able to keep pace in a wide open bracket and I never placed higher than 150's. So I decided to use my HP for what it is there for and start buying Heroic Covers. After 10 buys I ended up with 2 that weren't 2*. I decided then and there I would never spend a dime on the game. It was frustrating to not get anything that I really needed, but if I had actually spent money for that HP I would have really been upset. Since randomization and good fortune is such a big part of what you get (and I have none of the second one) I then accepted the fact that those high level characters would just be out of my reach. I know I could spend 1,100 and guarantee a particular cover, but honestly......isn't that a bit pricey?

Then today the Facebook account I set up to link to the game was locked out because of all of the friends that had been accepted as part of the game. I enjoyed getting the Iso rewards and being able to send them out. So Facebook starts showing me pictures of people that were listed as friends and asking me to identify them. Probably 40% used the MPQ icon picture as their photo, so I have absolutely no idea who is who. So now MPQ can't link to the account.

I really enjoyed the game when I first got it and everyone was about in the same place, but now (just like the real world) the gap between the haves and and have nots really makes it difficult to enjoy playing.

  • Sorry for your bad luck.

Don't delete the game though, just come back in 2-3 months and maybe the changes that are made will be more agreeable and you'll have more fun.

I've seen a lot of people 'go tilt' when playing Puzzles and Dragons and then have massive regrets when they cool down and come back months later and have to start all over again.
  • I feel similar. Sooo tempted to blow my HP load on heroics, but you hear nothing but bad things about it on these forums. My experience with heroic tokens weren't exactly great either. People complain for getting Mags or Hawkeye, I keep getting Bag-man, so I don't want to try my luck.

I don't think I'd ever quit the game though. I like Marvel too much and the dev team seems alright.
  • It wasn't so much the bad draws (although those did suck) but it seemed that in order to keep pace in tournaments you need to have a rare high rank character. The more common ones (Thor, C. Storm, MK40) are at a real disadvantage, even when you can have boosts going into the match. One bad board set up and then the high rank Rags goes ballistic and you are done. So I found that I just wasn't enjoying the game as much. The sad thing is that I could say, "ok I want to play with the big dogs" and set down $30 or $40 and end up pretty much exactly where you started. I'm happy that I didn't lose any money to figure this out. icon_e_biggrin.gif

Where did you see that? All I recall seeing was that there was uncertainty about their ability to handle multiple start/end times.

  • I think it's important to understand that a F2P and PVP model almost never, ever works. Finding the right 'balance' in which it's fair to everyone is almost impossible. That's why you can probably list on one hand the games that have gotten it right.

With that knowledge, you have to be a bit more lenient on your expectations of this game. There are going to be times where the game is going to feel unfair or broken. All you can do is hope that the people who make it, try thier best to make it seem as fair as possible to all parties.

Also, as a 'free player' you can't expect to compete for every prize or scenario that comes up. There would be zero incentive to be a paying customer if that were the case. That's the inherent downfall of the F2P/PvP model.

So, with the size of this dev group and the built in lag time that changes take to be made in the mobile world, you should try to exhibit a bit more patience with your frustrations. Just take a breather and come back in a few months ...
  • Oh I totally agree with you Adam. It is sort of pointless to make a game completely equal whether you pay or not, otherwise what is the point of paying? My point is that whether you pay or not it really comes down to a matter of the luck of the draw. I'm very glad that I didn't pay anything. You can be a player that doesn't pay a dime and run around with a High Level Rags and a Spidey with yellow and blue skills maxed out or you could be a player that spent $100 and happy to have a maxed out Thor. I know which one I would end up being. I'm mostly just disappointed that Facebook shut down my account. Too bad there wasn't a way for the game to have its own central server for friend rosters.

But I am by no means mad, just mostly disappointed on how this series of events played out.
  • I gotta tell you, I'm getting damn close myself. Without the fb lifeblood I'd probably have already left. I haven't pulled anything not named * iron man, * storm, venom, yelena or juggernaught in a week from standard tokens. It takes so much effort to keep up that this game has become a chore. The development team keeps making the pvp WORSE. And if that's not bad enough, there's clearly a push to provide content to a tiny fraction of the player base.

I absolutely did not say that we wouldn't support different ending times. I said that the support is either there or it isn't. We have to get back end systems online to handle either multiple parallel Tournaments or at the least different matchmaking so that players didn't get hit by people outside their timezone (what would happen if someone whose Tourney ended got matched with someone who still had theirs going?). The possibility for such support in the future is there. The possibility for that switch being flipped immediately is simply an impossibility.

I try to avoid IAP focused games like the plague. They seem to demand more real money then you would ever spend on a premium game to get measurable benefit. I got into MPQ because I'm a huge PQ fan. I have played every version of PQ that has been released to date and was heart broken when I learned this one was going to be F2P (similar to how I now hate Dungeon Hunter by Gameloft). Thing is that I gave it a try and have been having a great time. The challenge for me is that I am willing to spend $ on a good game but the F2P model requires big spender type investments to really benefit. I don't feel like I can spend $1 to $10 and get anything worthwhile for my money in MPQ so I have not bought anything yet. I learned early that using HP on covers was a total waste and full of frustration. Agree with the OP that if I had paid real $ for those then I would be pretty upset. That said, it is the reason that the playing field is even close to even. If you could just buy everything then it would be pay to win which is really no fun either. I have managed to win some tournaments and place highly in others so they do a pretty good job on the balancing. When I find myself getting matched up against opponents way out of my level (e.g. all maxed out) I tank a tournament (lightening rounds are great for this) until I start getting matched up with people at my level again. May want to try that before giving up the game.

The other thing that I did was start a new game to explore the Prologue missions after the 20 to 5 cover max patch. The PvE missions are nice in between events and when I want to relax a bit. I am very impressed with how I am matched up with teams at my level even with my low level teams. I've even placed highly with that team. I really need to stop though - it is crazy at the end to be going back and forth between two devices trying to maintain my positions for both accounts icon_e_smile.gif
  • As a free player I've been pleasantly pleased with this game. I have managed to win several tournaments over the past few weeks. My luck with the heroic tokens has been mostly bad - but I have managed to pull a couple of 3* from them.
Tournament end times will be a problem for someone somewhere no matter what time it's set to. Irrespective of whether you are a f2p or p2p player the whole tournament structure needs a overhaul so that it doesn't have such an emphasis on the last few hours of play.

IceIX clarified above, but I still don't see how you read his original post as a "not going to do it" statement. If anything it was congenial and understanding... without committing to anything. You might see that as vapid -- but the reality is that if he had committed the team to different end times then it wouldn't have been 24 hours before people started claiming that it was promised, and hasn't happened yet, so he must be lying, etc.

I'm a dev myself and I should know better than to expect any such turnaround, especially since client side changes require both Apple and Google to approve the app, and even so I find myself being annoyed that "they haven't fixed this yet" -- even though it's only been a few days. The turnaround time for anything that's not completely and utterly game breaking is likely to be more like 3-4 weeks at a minimum.

Hummm, I guess I must have misunderstood. This is a subject that has been talked about multiple times in several different topics here on the forum but there was never a detailed response like you just posted. When you said "we either support different end times or we don't" I concluded that you were talking about the developers either favored it or they don't. Even after I asked a question on what you posted you didn't reply, so I must have jumped to the conclusion that it wasn't something the developers felt was an issue. Then other members of the forum started commenting on reasons why the developers would want to leave the tourney as is, and there was no response from you. So I just assumed you didn't feel the need to comment because what was stated was pretty much where you were coming from.

Definitely apologize for the miscommunication then. I can see how you misunderstood and precisely why that misunderstanding remained. I can't promise anything, see Zathrus above for reasonings on that. We are well aware of the overall time zone issue with Tournaments overall however. We don't like the fact that a portion of the audience that we're reaching for has to either change their living schedule to account for a game or simply do less well.

No worries at all. The tournament end times were a minor inconvenience. I just focused on the progression rewards which were pretty good before the Dakan love-fest broke out. They were the only way that I was able to get the MK40 covers. The real disappointment was working so hard to build up HP and then come away with only 1 usable cover after spending it all and then FB locking out my account because I couldn't identify other players in pictures. Those are really things you as a developer can't control, just something that happens to some of us.

I'm used to it though...I bought a Wii U a year ago. Still waiting for some support for it.
