Auto-heal after every battle

It seems like every team needs a healer, and with the Spidey nerf, I see OBW on almost every team.

I really think that if surviving team members were healed for a small percent after every fight, we'd see a lot more variety in gameplay. All offense teams may be more viable if you risk going killing the other team before they can do too much damage. Protect tile support heroes would be viable, whereas now, healing back to full during the fight is preferred. It also adds a bit more weight to a hero dying.

What do you all think?

  • D3's internal metrics indicate that players prefer paying large amounts of money for health packs. In order to better serve our customers, we're going to gently nudge OBW into Bagman territory, and raise the price of health packs by a factor of five.

Scre...I mean, *thank* you for your input!

  • Mavericat.... nail on the head. The fact that healing is so poor means that everyone uses an in team healer... i.e. spidey or OBW. better healing mechanics would absolutely mean more variation.

Vairelome... even more nail on the head!!!
  • I have a better idea.

They could just remove OBW's black and purple, leaving her only with blue.

Then I wouldn't skip every fight I see with her.
  • New feature for R55: On popular demand for auto-heal your health packs will be now used to automatically heal injured heroes after each battle.
  • Healing is a broken mechanic in these kind of games. Yeah, I use OBW loads because you have to use her in order to grind from 0-700 points in a short time frame - but if healing characters didn't exist then there would be more variety in team combos, lower scores all around (so less need to heal) and ***D3 ALERT*** probably more health pack purchasing in desperate situations rather than abuse of the prologue healing trick.
  • They really need to move away from a healing based limitation and into an energy based one, like most pay to w.... er, "free to play" games. Why can my team fight unlimited defensive matches at full health every time but when I'm actually playing the game I get punished for it?

It would go a long way towards fixing the scourge of OBW teams, that's for sure.
  • Healing is lame once your roster gets to a good point and you start getting burnt out. It's an annoying experience that can only be done effectively i. The prologue without compromising tournament points. It takes forever. I stopped using it even when spidey was good because I didn't wantto play a pointless match just to heal my characters. I was content using my 5 health packs and then letting them recover.

I and others like me have suggested that healing characters should be left the way they are, but that characters should heal completely after each fight unless they were downed. This could be met with certain changes> heLth packs could take longer to regen, characters could take longer to recover from being downed. This change is unlikely to see the light of day because it doesn't encourage as much health pack use. However, if you are like me and have a high lvl team, you can enter a fight with all your characters at 30% health and still expect to win. The problem then arrises, if my team doesn't retain damage between fights, outside of lvl 300+ pve, my characters are unlikely to ever die.

The same problem exists with the OP's suggestion.

So while it's a nice idea to have characters heal a little or completely after winning a fight, I understand why the devs aren't swinging that way.

What i think should be done, is have some event weeks where devs can try things out. IE: this week your characters regen after each fight unless they are KOed, this week iso earnings are doubled etc.

This way devs could try out new metrics and see how they affect purchase of resources to see if the permanent change would be worth while.

I've started a topic to discuss this notion of event weeks here http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8541
  • How about a flip?

Characters heal fully after each battle but we still keep health packs that can be used in game
Maybe keep a revive timer for downed heroes but they pop back up ready to go after their half hour or something.

Healer characters no longer so required, consumable resource still has a place and may possibly see an increase in use, still a barrier to losing if all your chars get downed but much more flexibility to try absurdly challenging fights

I'd like to see it go the other way and have more healing characters. I like the strategy of healing in a fight beyond just wiping out the other team short of one hit and healing at the end. If more characters had healing abilities that's what would promote more roster variety. Taking away the healers is going to pull OBW out of rosters certainly, but we'll just see more 'fast' teams pop up. Instead of seeing Punisher/Patch & C.Mags 50% of the time you'll see them 75% of the time. But if Psylocke and BP had blue heals instead of their current blue powers, that would mix things up a lot more than simply removing OBW.

Nerfing Spider-Man into utter uselessness didn't diversify opponent's rosters, it simply means we see OBW twice as often as we used to (which was already a lot).

There's nothing wrong with having healers in the game. Yeah, some players may take them along to avoid buying health packs, but if health packs are D3's primary income on this game they have problems. Players using healers are sacrificing offense and are generally weaker on defense as well. I don't use OBW, for example, but I salivate every time I see her partnered with Lazy Thor. He's slow and she's weak - a perfect combo for me. Kill her while Thor is trying to build color. Once OBW is gone the match is over, because it's not hard to deny Thor his colors after that.

OBW ceases to exist once you get a full 3* roster. I hardly ever see her once I pass 700 Rating and move into 3* dominated teams. When I do see her, she is easy pickins because of her health pool. She is a Human Torch Snack... like Smores. Daken beats her like she stole something.
  • Honestly I'd be pretty happy if the amount of healing over time became a percentage of health instead of a fixed value.
I don't know how profitable Health Packs are but they seem like one of the worst value IAP in this game, and that's saying something.

Since they nerfed Spiderman, which I admit I was (ab)using alot - this is my exact sentiment! She is supersquishy and he is as his names implies... Slow and Lazy.

    So this +10.

Surviving team members are healed for a small percent after every fight... if you wait a few minutes. icon_e_wink.gif I don't think an instant 5% post-victory health boost would mean much at all: that's just a few turns' worth of high-level match damage. And anyway, OBW's Recon is far more useful than her heal in PVP.

Having more healing characters would change things up a bit, but I think having more countdown-free AP steal characters would more strongly encourage team comp variety.

    This.

I almost never run OBW anymore. She invites attacks by anyone running even 2* Thor + OBW, since a human OBW easily counters an AI OBW, and just about any 3* heavy hitter can virtually one-shot her. The only time I now use OBW in PVP is for the occasional, badly timed shieldhop when I'm out of health packs and CMags is in bad shape after a PVE run. Then, it's LT + OBW for the "defense? wut's defense?" win.
