[Brag] Bracket of LIFE continues!

For background, I've been in brackets before where I dropped out of the top 10 while over 1100 and had to shield hop to get back in it.

Then the last PVP, Heavy Metal, I won my bracket at 966.

And now...shielded in 1st in Fatal Attraction at 914, with a 117 pt lead over 2nd, and lots of 2* rosters jockeying for position in the 700's. Seriously, no one else in the top 10 has a 141, and the highest I see is a 102.

Sharding can apparently swing the other way!

Anyone else winning the bracket lotto?

HairyDave calls it a fluffy bracket.

    And with good reason:

This would have been nice for Heavy Metal...
  • When I left home this morning I was 4th in my bracket with 831 points. Not sure it'll hold top 10, I always expect teams full of 141 to jump out of nowhere and take the top spots.
  • I think they must have tweeked the sharding system a little bit. I think the insane Heavy Metal event that you're referring to was a first implementation.

I actually have a new theory that I'm going to test on Fresh Cut. Then if it's true, I'll see how long before I report, otherwise forumites will flock to it. icon_lol.gif

You can always PM it to someone with the understanding that they will pass it on to another. Like a chain letter, but way less lame.

If it works just report the opposite of what works to the forum and you'll still be fine.

I accidentally got Top 5 in the UDaken PVP by being in a fluffy bracket of life (FBL): I didn't really care about Psylocke covers, so I was unshielded for the entire event, ground up to 900 for the HP, got smacked down to 800 overnight, and did two final fights for funsies. 854 was apparently good enough for #5. I kinda feel bad for the guy in #11, but I did use the black cover to respec. icon_rolleyes.gif

    FBL FTW.
  • Got 7th in my bracket with the same points that got me 25th two events ago.
I have a theory that if you whine too much on the forums they'll put you in an easy bracket just to make you look silly after whining so much.

My fluffy bracket up there bared it's teeth in the last hour or so - the top didn't change but it got a lot more cut-throat further down. Positions 2-25 were covered by 100 points.

So Fatal Attraction was a tiny kitty fest of course, so we won't count that.

But Starfall had me take 2nd with 936. 1st was 1004 and 10th was 849.

    The experiment will continue.

In my and teammate's experience, if you get death brackets a few times and/or miss out on top 10 (top 25, top 50), next time you get a progressively easier bracket.

That's all I know and it seems to work. Also, amount of shielding you do probably influences the bracketing a bit, too.

I shield once usually for covers I need. With covers I don't need I don't bother, just play in the last minutes. All my recent brackets have been adequate for me, where 900 points gets you top 10 guaranteed, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less even. Got #8 this time in Starfall with just 829 points.
The last time I missed out on top 10 despite needing the rewards and tryharding was Fresh Cut with Daken covers (the first opportunity to get his covers after the failure that was Heroic Oscorp). All the subsequent tourneys were an unshielded ISO farming galore for me, so can't confirm if S2 is indeed easier than S1.

A teammate was severely discouraged by missing even top 50 a few times in S1 and wasn't very active in PvP for the most part of S1. In the latest Starfall event, he got a fluffy bracket (600 points would get you #1 I believe). Need a confirmation from him.

Edit: there were two times in a row that I missed on top 10 despite needing the rewards and shielding with good scores (1140+, 1150+), but it was the middle of S1, when the death brackets were at their highest, probably, and everyone needed the covers (Falcon). Although Patch covers for the 2nd time don't have that reasoning.
