Event token carryover

I noticed that my hoarded tokens from the previous Cosmic Chaos event did not carry over into the current Cosmic Chaos event. I swore that stockpiled tokens would carry over to give me a better chance at snagging one of the 4*, but I guess not. Was this always the case or did it change with the store update?

Cosmic Chaos has a 3 day and 4 day version. I don't think the two stack.
I did not know that. Thank you. What about the other events... do they stack?

My tokens carried over from the last time this awarded "card pack" tokens back in 2020.

As a 4-star release event, this uses the "card pack" (aka slot machine) store rather than a vault.
Vault tokens can't be used in card-pack stores and vice versa.  If you scroll through the list of expired vaults down to "Cosmic Chaos" you should find your stored tokens.  Don't pull them, they use the contents of the previous vault and reset after every pull.  Those vault tokens have no chance of awarding Morbius.
Next time "Cosmic Chaos" rolls around, you can use those vault tokens on an active vault.  Any tokens you earn from this event and don't use will be stockpiled for the "card pack" version of the event.

    Then I'll keep hoarding.

What Las Vegan casino game designer designed this whole thing?

BTW it makes no difference whether an event runs in a 3-day or 4-day version, the tokens stack.
The only difference that matters is whether it awards tokens to a card-pack store or a vault.

Tangentially, is there a reason to hoard event tokens?

For vaults, there is a limited number of prizes. Usually around 80 or so. If you save tokens, you can rack up a decent amount of pulls. Assuming the event isn't removed from the schedule, you can collect 80 tokens which guarantees that you get the prizes you want in that set.

That is a darn good reason. Thanks!

It depends. Sometime the event had a vault, and sometimes a store. The stockpiled tokens would be whatever type you had the last time.

How long does it take to save up to 80 tokens though? There are quite a few events in the game so I would assume it would take a few years, no?

You can only expect to gather so many free tokens during an event. For the Cosmic Chaos store, I only collected 7 tokens last time. I probably missed out on some tokens, but that should give you an idea, It's not a great strategy short-term.

As stated earlier, it's not the 3-day vs 4-day vaults, it's that this particular Cosmic Chaos has rewards that are a new character, which means there's a (microscopic) chance in the pulls to get a cover for Morbius.  Since they don't want to put that chance in a vault just yet, it's token pulls with replacement, instead of from a vault without replacement.

With that singular exception, you can keep tokens for all of the events, including all three of the Taco vaults, for as long as your patience allows.  For the spicy Taco vault, I usually wait until there's a 4-star that will give me either shards for a 5-star I need or a Legendary Token before cracking some of the tokens for the vault...I've got 312 waiting right now..  For the Deadpool Daily vaults, I've got 330 for the Sweet and 393 for the Savory vaults saved up for whenever they're needed.

It used to be that events with wave nodes gave out event tokens instead of heroic tokens when completing the wave for the first time. That meant that you could get a lot more tokens for events that had waves so you'd reach 80 tokens quickly (a year or so).
Sadly they changed that with no notice so now your right, you need the event to run a lot of times (10 or so) before you reach 80. But once you do, it may only take a few draws to get the 4* you want so then you can reach 80 again quickly (I have quite a few events around 70-90 right now).

Next Event is Infinite Pursuit, which will likely have a vault with Morbius in it.  I've got 31 tokens saved up from previous runs, so I've got a pretty good shot at getting one of his covers.
