B/G nissa or new ashiok?

I'm looking for insight  from anyone... but specifically  people who have both walkers. I have the Crystal's and I'm itching to buy a new walker. I don't think I could get another 650 Crystal's before b/g nissa rotates... should I wait until she is available  or should I buy the new ashiok and have fun with a new walker now??

I know this isn't one of the two options you gave but I would suggest neither. I have both at 60 and I dont use either one. If I had to pick between the 2 I guess I personally had more fun with nissa.

Ashiok is definitely fun but probably B tier. First ability is like a powered-down version of Angrath's ultimate, but you can get it up and running much quicker cuz it's a first ability; it's okay for what it does, works well with Rogue decks but tbh I still like Angrath better for that. Second ability is...fine? Not amazing but okay, would be a bit better if you could look at your opponent's graveyard. Third ability is fun but whether or not it's actually as powerful as a 3rd ability ought to be depends a lot on what supports your opponent is running, so kind of unreliable.

Black/Green Nissa on the other hand is excellent. Easy to build for (keep your mana curve low and your graveyard full, pop off her 3rd, and win), and is great at a lot of the objectives that can be annoying - pauper decks? No problem. Need to cast 274 creatures of [subtype] before winning? No problem. Need to convert 78,000 gems before winning? No problem. Due to those types of objectives I find myself using her a lot. Even used her for Colors of Magic quite successfully.

    I'd say Nissa.

If you already have Garruk, Cursed Huntsman, then you might not need her.  However, she plays differently than him despite sharing a color combination, which can be valuable.  Her second ability is strong--any token summoning ability is great, and bringing a land in play is just a bonus--and her third ability can be downright insane and turns cheap creatures into genuine threats. I use her far more than I originally thought I would.

Ashiok, on the other hand, is a bit more niche.  Their first ability being limited to creatures in the library affects how strong it is, so you really have to focus the deck on milling to make it worthwhile, at which point it becomes more of a "win more" ability than an actual win condition. The second ability is a bit too RNG for my liking. You're as likely to spend 12 loyalty on a complete dud of a card as you are to get something good.

The ultimate CAN be strong but again, RNG makes it hard to rely on. Blue-black is relatively limited as to what support combos can be instantly assembled.  For every game you wind up with a bunch of powerful supports, you wind up throwing a bunch of your opponent's off-color conversion lands on the board and regretting it for the next several turns.

New Ashiok really depends on what supports you have. Graveyard fun has always been one of my favorite mechanics in this game so I like him, and I also like playing a lot of supports. BG Nissa is really solid all around, and I use her a lot.

I have huntsman! and regular assiok! I like dredge archetypes and want nissa for the vengvine/otrimi combo alone! but to update........I have absolutely  no willpower to save Crystal's.. I bought new assiok. it's fun but it nothing to write home about. Gyruda/knonrad/folio/whirlwind  graveyard  life-ping shinnanigins is cool.. but im never running it in any event.!

I actually might be able to get to 620 before she rotates if I don't do any TotP events

Dammit Janet, I hoovered up a load of PWs in the Christmas sale and didn't need any more just now, but this thread plus the 40% off has broken my will. New Nissa looks amazing, and its a good use for my 48 billion runes :-D

Are there any Tier 1 must have walkers from the recent year? The only ones I purchased since a Eldraine came out were BG Garruk (because his ability set is the complete package) and Narset (because 3 colors).

Similar experience here Xucachris! The discount also got rid of my crystals ending in "2", so that was an extra motivation 😆

    Is Nahiri worth it?

I like her 3rd, but I can’t decide if it will matter in a game. If I have a lot of creatures and reinforcements on the field, I’m most likely in fir a win anyways, so why finish it off with a 80/80 attack?

I like Nahiri, but I find I almost exclusively use her 2nd ability in matches. You're right that the 3rd ability is pretty much a "win more" button - but when the 2nd ability will reliably fetch Haktos and Shadowspear and give them half their mana, who needs any other buttons anyways? >:)
