I've quite liked the sentry event

I agree with the OP. I've enjoyed this event quit a bit. Best part for me is the lack of rubber banding. Scaling is getting tough, but I don't mind. IMO there should be a few really tough matches. Just breezing through goon levels gets monotonous.
Yeah, that's one of the good things about this last set. There's actually a variety of enemy levels, not just a wall of maxed leveled people
  • Enjoyed the variety of enemies and not having to face Daken/Bullseye all the time
  • I like the EVENT itself in terms of match makeups, removal of rubberbanding, and even a Daken cover reward that seems obtainable for many who put the effort in.

However playing it for me is mostly impossible due to scaling. It started out tough and by the second round IIRC there were nodes that I just couldn't do without great risk of a complete team wipe. As of the final round I'm only able to do 3 nodes, 2 of those again with a good 50/50 chance of losing altogether and even with a victory needing to use health packs for all three heroes.

I distinctly remember the scaling of the event that introduced Daredevil (Oscorp or TaT can't remember) making that event essentially impossible for me to play and I was barely building at 2* team at that point. This was an admitted mistake by D3 and they copped to it but not getting a single DD cover and missing the ABILITY to place highly in the following PVE's for a while due to it being a logistical impossibilty to obtain the covers for the required nodes set me back what felt like weeks.

Other players and friends who had similar rosters but didn't get hit by the ludicrous scaling jumped weeks ahead of me both in overall covers as well as ISO and subsequent levelling said covers. I came very close to walking away from the game at that point.

Due to the scaling I have absolutely no shot at any Sentry covers and due to the many recent changes my Alliance has had a bunch of turnover as well as some players just being burnt out. So no Sentry cover there either.

I'm a day 170 player who has spent a few hundred over that time. Most likely the setback to progress that not having a Sentry in the INEVITABLE required nodes and not having many Daken covers due to tough comp as well is going to be the final straw where I'll pretty much have to walk away forever. Progression as-designed is slow and I fear mine is going to take several steps back for a while at least.

There's just no reason to play when grinding will be more difficult, rewards will be less, progression much slower and the other changes adding up to needing to spend money on health packs rather than covers, boosts and shields as I typically did.
  • I like the change to play against the Avengers, and the structure of the sub-events and a global counter to unlock extra nodes is nice.

However, almost all my nodes are straight 395 enemies the whole event. It's either that or enemies at level 50 or so. No middle ground. Really absurd that every mission is completely trivial or painful and dependent on a friendly board. It's actually kinda fun to plan out how to take down these high level teams - especially when I can't use some of my best characters b/c they're on the other team - without just stunlocking them anymore. Unless they were to do Thor/Wolvie/Punisher, I seem to find some combination that can do it. I actually have to resort to boosts, which I almost never do.

It's fun to do about once, but when it's every node and I'd have to grind it down several playthroughs per refresh to keep up with others it becomes tedious. And I can only play a couple nodes at a time, as a single unlucky enemy cascade wipes out 3 health packs instantly. I think there's a lesson here: design events with one or two super challenging nodes that can get up to 395, but have the majority of nodes not scale past, say, 200 or so. I'm sure it will fall on deaf ears.

I think this will be the first time I won't place in one of the top couple tiers. No Sentry for me. I'm genuinely glad a lot of others apparently aren't seeing this ridiculous scaling and are enjoying the event.

All my nodes are 300+. I have to spend boosts to even have a chance at winning, and I'm nowhere near the top 20 ranking for the full set of covers :/

I've spent so much ISO 8 just trying to get through this event.

This has nothing to do with this thread...I am tired of seeing you in pvp!!! I imagine it is the same for you in regards to me. I try to skip you as often as possible, but it gets tough when I skip you and you just pop up again. Hopefully I haven't hit you more than once per event, if so, I apologize.

Katai, my nodes aren't as high as yours, but if I keep grinding them like I have then I'll probably be falling down the leader board too. Top 20 in our bracket is looking tough.

Heh, yeah I know the feeling! There's you and 10-20 other similar high level people that I see over and over and over. I'm always thinking "OK, if I hit them, they'll probably just hit me back and we'll both get nowhere. But if I don't retaliate, they'll think I'm weak and keep hitting me." I know it's not personal, but it does sort of make you feel like the other person is your arch nemesis.

Overall, I liked the event. I really like Thunderbolts Mountain with really interesting matchups and progression. I like Sentry and can't wait to use him.

My biggest critique of the event was that the global progression bars feel extremely anticlimactic. I see a bar filling up and I get excited that something really interesting might happen, only to see 2 more nodes appear and aren't anything special. The Hulk was done the best in that regard. Global progression actually meant something other than more nodes to grind. Maybe this one will be similar in that it unlocks a free cover, but I doubt it.

There are so many opportunities to mix things up and make the twist to be something you go running to your friends and say, "DUDE, you have to play this event!" but only The Hulk event has managed to capture that feeling. And maybe Simulator Basics when one node gave 5000 ISO.
  • I think having 1 node where you could win say a lazy daken or even a sentry early would have been a cool addition to pique peoples interest but yeah even though I am not going to win a sentry i've enjoyed the event.
