Sandboxing madness

You probably heard me whining a lot about game's server design and the substitute devs use for actual anticheat measures: sandboxing based on user reports.

Recent reports show it went completely amok. I thought only the automatic tracking is missing but support has actual info on account state to issue the action. Seem they either lack even that or the personnel can;t be bothered.

One story reported by mohio: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=8140&hilit=sandboxed&start=20#p149621 about a guy who got sandboxed for applying the stuff the system posted him in error. (anyone getting the extra Falcons also in danger? )

And recently it seem jimbojim24 got in the sandbox too -- he wrote about it on Steam forums. I checked Zilver Mask, indeed he's not there so it is not the leaderboard/alliance access error. Currently he's running circles with CS.

I remember Koolbiird having issues with it way back during an elite tourney which completely messed up his ranking.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/234330/di ... 005935094/ - not sure if that works without the steam app?
  • That's harsh. I don't usually pay close attention to my rewards. I just click through them. What if they give me a reward twice or a reward that I wasn't supposed to get and apply it? Am I doomed forever or can support fix that?

When we had an alliance-mate get sandboxed, everyone was quick to point out to me that D3's algorithms were solid and it was not in their best business interest to sandbox legit players. I posed a question: "Has anyone ever successfully navigated CS and gotten out of the sanbox?" I've not yet heard of a player getting out of it. Any forumites out there get sent to the attic and come back to tell the tale???

I used to receive an extra reward once. I also had covers disappear for no reason at all. Fun times...

I don't trust D3 to build a system capable of sandboxing people efficiently.

if your talking about carebearstare, who had a 20man alliance paid for by himself, and an all maxed/leveled roster, and literally shielded after every single fight in pvp starting at 600 score... yeah, pretty sure he deserved it. yay unlimited HP!

I agree, seeing as how you are an admitted cheater and still haven't been sandboxed.

So that's what happened to him, he was 4th in my season 1 bracket and I was 5th, he had like 1k points over me so no chance of me catching up, by the time the official results came out I was 4th, a member of my alliance got bumped to 5th and I noticed jimbojim was gone, that sucks, he got sandboxed the same day season 1 ended so he lost all the prices for 4th place too.
  • Virtually every person who gets caught cheating claim they didn't cheat. I've played with way too many cheaters to believe anyone saying they're wrongly flagged for cheating. Not saying nobody was ever wronged before but I've played games where using the game's teleport spell gets you flagged as a cheater but nobody that actually used the game's mechanism to teleport got banned.

I was also in JimboJim's bracket in Season one, knew I finished 7th and knew the six rosters ahead of mine. When it was all done, I got a sixth place finish. What sucks is that he fought me many times during the SHIELD sim and cost me quite a bit of points.

I know there were a lot of questions raised about the speed with which jimbojim seemed to win battles. It wasn't just his roster that had people questioning whether he was legit.

It doesn't seem like D3 has any anti-cheat algorithms at all and must rely on brute force or user reporting
  • Could someone sandbox me? It seems like a lot less work.

The first part is completely, utterly false. DecoyDuck is the founder of CareBearStare. It's insulting that you're downplaying DecoyDuck's involvement with creating the alliance. I'm not even sure if m4saia/carebearstare was co-commander

The second part also isn't true. He had a deep 141 roster, but it wasn't all maxed. I don't have his roster memorized by heart, but I know for sure his Psylocke was not maxed. He did have a maxed Lazy Thor and Lazy Cap, and this was right after Lazy Cap came out, but that's hardly unusual. You have, for instance, quite a few people with maxed Dakens the day he was released. If deep 141 rosters and an over-excitement for new characters are a sign of cheating, we might as well sandbox half of these forums

I've never been in his bracket so I dunno about his shielding habits. Shielding after every fight is extreme, but he could have shielded every 4 fights or every 5 fights for all you know. From your previous two statements, I doubt you were keeping as close an eye on him as you'd like to have us believe. I know the stakes were a lot lower back when Carebearstare played than it is during Seasons, but in Season 1 you had people shielding from day 1 of Season 1 sim, and you had a large part of the community engaging in this extreme shield hopping behaviour. There was less incentive to spend money on monster scores back then, but it's hardly unusual to spend money to be the best

There's one thing I found about his story that was weird/suspicious, but your points are either false or non-suspicious
