Facebook sharing - how does it work?

I keep seeing Steam users mention how they're upset that they're missing out on the extra rewards from sharing on Facebook. Well, I'm playing on iOS but don't have a Facebook account so I'm missing out on rewards too!

How exactly does this work? Can I create a FB account just to do this with and start raking in the iso?

I've also seen mention of Facebook syncing messing up and players losing all their progress. Is this something I should be wary of or would it not affect me if I still only play on my iOS device?

  • I play on iOS (iPad) and have yet to put MPQ on my (android) phone because I like keeping my phone free for urgent calls. From reading the threads on Facebook syncing across multiple devices, I'm confident adding my account to my phone will be easy if I ever do that. I haven't paid much attention to the "players losing all progress" threads because I thought the main problem seemed to be with multiple steam and/or MPQ accounts, neither of which I have. I haven't noticed any threads about Facebook syncing messing up.. Now I'm a little worried. icon_e_confused.gif

My game is synced with my Facebook account and I have a total of 3 Facebook "friends" who play MPQ with Facebook gifting. One of those friends was there already when I first loaded MPQ, I don't think I did anything but agree to the normal Facebook permission pop-up that appeared at the start of my first log-in. Just having a Facebook account won't be enough, you're going to need to be "friends" on Facebook with specific MPQ players in order to receive gifts.

So, to get a gift via Facebook you need :

    a) A MPQ account (obviously)
    b) A Facebook account
    c) One or more active MPQ players as "friends" on Facebook (not just having a friend request sent/received, it needs to be accepted). You may already know people playing MPQ, and they've allowed Facebook gifting permissions; if not, an alliance is a great place to find some.

AND THEN : One or more of those active MPQ players to get an in-game pop-up when claiming a reward*, asking if they want to share with their friends -> they click 'yes' -> they choose your name**-> they click to confirm -> MPQ + Facebook talk -> you get an in-game pop-up message to claim the reward gift that they sent you!
NOTE : It works the same way to send gifts as well, a pop-up to share will occasionally appear when you go to claim a reward and you select who to send it to from your available friends.

    * I have sent and received ISO between 70 and 500, standard tokens, and random 1*/2* cover drops.
** I've seen a limit of 3 gifts per reward noted on this forum. Because I only have 3 friends they each get every reward I can share.

Final, very important, point : Facebook is something best used with caution. You need to take the time to set up your security and profile settings, especially if you have parts of your real life linked or accessible in any way. What you post, and what people can post about you (photos, location check-ins, status updates) should NEVER be out of your control or knowledge.
  • OP, I wouldn't stress much about the FB sharing. If you have a normal social network, you'll only know a few people who play MPQ regularly, so you do get a small amount of extra ISO and a few extra standard tokens, but it's not a major difference. I know 3 people who play MPQ regularly, and they're all in my alliance. I think the steam users are upset because they don't have access to it, so they imagine it's some kind of flood of iso and tokens. It's not. I typically get a couple hundred ISO a day, and maybe an extra token or two. It gives you the option to share rewards randomly, and somewhat infrequently. Some days, you get a little more, some days you get nothing. It just depends on whether or not it gives your contacts the option to share with you when they're playing.

Some people have made dummy FB accounts to try and milk more daily rewards, which I suppose is feasible if you're a newer player and haven't already linked your real one. It's only in the past month/ month and a half that we've had alliances, and before that, there wasn't a huge amount of motivation for players to do that. Most older players already have their MPQ accounts linked to their real FB account, so there's no benefit to starting over just to be able to link with a dud FB account.

My impression is that steam users see a few people on the forums who've made dud FB accounts to try and game the system, and cry foul, but I think that's probably the minority of MPQ players, rather than the norm. If you want to setup a dud FB account, it should be pretty painless to do that, and link to your MPQ account. You'll get a small amount of iso and tokens if you're connected with other regular players, which is a nice small boost, but not a major advantage.

In terms of FB sync errors, I had that problem before with Minion Rush, and that typically only happens if you're playing a game on multiple devices (e.g. tablet, phone, etc..) w/in too short a period of time. If you only play it on one device, it's unlikely you'll ever see that error.
  • What do you mean by setting up a dud FB account, what difference would that be compared to your normal FB and what advantages would you gain by that?

    1) Separate friend lists. If you only add MPQ players to your dummy FB account, you don't bug Uncle Steve with game requests.
    2) Privacy. Your MPQ friends do not have access to your real FB. (This way they won't make fun of your Uncle Steve's poor rapping skills.)

That makes sense, it was the term 'dud' that threw me, I was imagining it was some kind of against the rules, under the radar thing LOL
I ccn totally get having a second seperate account for this. thanks for the clarification.
