Fate of lightning rounds: a 3* tournament

Anyone else get the feeling that in a week or two the lightning rounds will essentially become like a 3* tournament?

Given that all the 3* villains are buffed in all the rounds, and the rounds are allowing people to further levelup said 3*'s, eventually, the rounds will be largely hulking buffed 3* teams...

  • I personally don't think so. Even with the nerf to storm, I saw a very large amount of storm/thor combos come through my queue line. The reason being that that combo can still easily wipe out a team quite quickly, quicker than an all 3 star team can defeat that matchup.

Not raging here, but it got to the point that to just slow down being attacked, I was forced to place C. Storm into my party.
  • I think you'll see fewer tough teams as players get all the covers they need. I only need three more covers myself til I'm done collecting all the available covers
  • I don't know if having all the covers necessarily disuades people from competing anyways.

If you've got all the covers, the lightning rounds would be an easy source of HP and ISO....

As for C-storm/Thor teams...true they are still a plenty. But in a couple weeks when people start leveling up their 3*s, cstorm/thor won't stand a chance against buffed Doom/Rag/Hood teams in the lightning rounds. I still think we'll see the lightnings dominated by such teams in the near future...

Why do you think this is how all lightnings are going to be?

We could very well see a completely different lightning tournament soon enough...
  • Unfortunately I'm one of those players still using C-storm & Thor combo, why? Because I don't have Rag/Doom/Magneto , and I don't think I'll ever get one of those unless spending money buying diabolic tokens, which cost $7 for one. Lightning rounds would eventually become playground of those who already have high level buffed characters, they can win the round pretty quickly and easily, so they get more villain covers and become more powerful.
Think about this, d3p. Other players need some chances.

I am too using C-storm & Thor combo for the same result. I believe this is what d3p aims for, f2p players won't have much chances of getting good 3* characters unless they start spending money.
  • I have a moderately leveled Magneto Classic thanks to some lucky pack pulls and lightning tournament wins.

I still use C.Storm and Thor when it comes down to the wire because they win matches so fast.
  • Just lost -97 points in 2 mins in a lightning round going from #45 to #241! Ouch!

Yeah, lightning rounds can be brutal. The scores are all so close, so one loss can kill you.

Case in point (and kind of a brag), this Hood tournament that just ended, I finished my last match and saw that I was 3rd, with Matryx and Marcellus ahead of me (never seen them before, but good on them.) The countdown was at <1 min, so I could only watch as I couldn't get top 2. Moments later, I see Marcellus lose points and Matryx get them...and Marcellus falls out of the top 2 and then I'm in!

Haven't been that lucky in a tournament ever...

(Also...Headspring...if you read this forum, I'm so sorry for attacking you twice in the last 4 minutes...)

Lightning rounds were good before they buffed HP and removed 3* characters from 1* tokens.
We need more herotic tournaments with prizes like Rag.

They didn't do this. They, in fact, added more 3* characters to the 1* standard packs

Did I encounter some bugs here? I only saw 1* characters in 1* packs and C-Storm, C-Spidey, X-Wolvie in Heroic Packs...

that's the freaking hood tournament for you, i refuse to actively compete in the hood one simply because losses are so exaggerated

They changed what displays on that little animated thing, cut down on the number of images to save memory. But they are not a 100% guide to what is actually in the pack. Ice IX did confirm that every current character in the game is available through that standard pack, odds are very low for the higher level rarity, but they're in there.
  • The big giant pile of **** that is these lightning rounds only props up people who already have his level 3 stars at the expense of those who don't have them. There is no progression path for two stars to 3 stars. It's a problem with the matchmaking and bracketing of tournaments. Because I did well in the past few tournaments before this week, I only match up with people with max level 3 stars already. I can't bring them down with my not even maxed two stars, and my level 50 and 18 3 stars. I can't get covers without paying exhorbant amount of money for each cover, and I can't win them cause they are really only available in these lightning rounds where all the top players are propped up by super buffs to already super powerful characters. It's a bad cycle with poor planning that alienates the majority of the player base.

Really, read the patch notes. First.
