why is odysee legacy?

I  don't get it, it's a balanced set that works well with theros, by was  the choice made not to put it in standard?

*I see no reason to deviate from the paper line up, it cou'd have worked as an addendum to theros, just like the new duel set is.

The set was released in 2001, thus it’s a “throwback”. It belongs in Legacy.

I know, but why release a legacy set then.

To me it doesn't matter - when- a set was released on paper, it matters when it was released in pq.

The underlying question is is essentially what the function of standard vs legacy is and if putting odysee in legacy follows that function...

I understand why they added it to Legacy, but I wish they hadn't. The cards get drowned out by the plethora of cards, OP or otherwise, that exist in Legacy.

Other than maaaaaybe one or two cards, I don't see myself playing Odysee cards much outside of its block restricted event. For that reason, I would have been fine with them releasing it as Standard so they can get more play.

    I feel the same way.

The set is very balanced for standard, but doen't hold itself well in legacy. It wold have been a fine addition to the standard  meta without  rocking the boat too much but it can't compete with the stronger sets of the past.

I think we're going to see more set-restricted events going forward, since its something that we've been asking for for a while and something the devs seem pretty open to implementing.

In that case, these cards might end up being useful in some of those events, where the more OP Legacy strategies aren't in the event.

Otherwise, I guess its just something to play around with in Legacy PvE and TG

I agree entirely! No new cards added to MTGPQ should instantly be lobbed over the standard block and thrown into a pool of a million cards that already rule the legacy world. After a set has hit standard we could go into legacy months later and perhaps use a few cards, but using our currency to purchase cards that can't be used any decent payout event, really makes that set no big deal. Events like Emrakuls Corruption and such where you might get a couple purple at the end if you do all your fights and rank in the top after several days; they're ridiculous and I don't even waste my time on them. If they amped those legacy rewards up than maybe Odyssey and other newly released sets added to legacy, would hold more novelty and value.

The question I have is why isn’t a purely legacy set lootable in legacy packs?

It’s also a “new” set but duplicate cards don’t have a 50% orb bonus.

wasnt trying to complain, just checking if the set was gone for a while is all, pretty sure it will be rolled back out at some point perhaps i will have the chance to pick up the rest of the cards is all.

Most likely when the event the cards can be used in, Seize the Day, comes back around.

Not complaining, I just wondered since the set fits so well in standard

Glitches aside, I'm very glad to see more old cards being brought to the game.  Still crossing my fingers for Mirrodin, Lorwyn, and Kamigawa!! :)
