Tokens in exile - a question or a change to Vivien Arkbow ranger

I vaguely recall something about a change to tokens in the fairly recent past, but can’t seem to find it so here goes.

Is it correct that tokens can exist in the GY? AFAIK tokens only existed on the battlefield and nowhere else, but perhaps this was changed?

If so this change to tokens has seriously nerfed Vivien, Arkbow ranger (VAR).

I have been playing around with Ayula (the bear leader) and I observed a number of bear tokens in the exile under certain circumstances. I think that my observations match the following events. 

I cast “Welcome Home” (summons 3 bears) twice and then Ayula, which exiles the bears and reinforces Ayula. So now I have 6 bear tokens in the exile, which is first in the exile.

A little while later I use VAR’s 3rd to return the first three creatures from the exile to my hand with full mana, which then continues to fetch the first three bears and remove them to oblivion, because tokens can’t exist in the hand.

So is the intended behaviour? Perhaps a change to VAR is required so it only returns non-token creatures.
